Last night a man scaled a fence at LAX, ran up to a Southwest Airlines plane that was preparing to depart, and set off a landing gear fire extinguisher on the Boeing 737.
A Southwest Airlines captain reported seeing a shadow in his peripheral vision before an alarm went off in the cockpit and he saw a person in a video transmitted to the jetliner cockpit, Pedregon said. The jetliner had just powered up for a flight to Sacramento.
Southwest Airlines flight WN3772 was delayed just 36 minutes by the incident despite passengers being moved onto another nearby 737 due to problems with the auxiliary power unit of the occurrance aircraft.
After setting off the extinguisher the man ran back toward the fence he had come in over. He was arrested “with the help of a police dog” who apparently also bit him (since he was taken to a hospital and treated for a dog bite). Officers report that he says he was just trying to fly home.
Cut off one hand. Let him go.
