Marriott Extends Expiration Of Free Night Awards And Pauses Points Expiration Again

Back in October Marriott announced they were extending expiration on Free Night awards that were supposed to expire in 2020 or before July 31, 2021 out to August 1, 2021.

Now they’ve gone ahead and issued another extension to free night awards, out to January 2, 2022.

Starting May 6, members who had a FNA with an original expiration date in 2020, or which will expire before January 2, 2022, as part of their Cobrand Credit Card Benefit, Annual Choice Benefit, promotions or travel package will be able to redeem it through January 3, 2022.

Please note that FNAs with an original expiration date before 2020 will not be eligible for the additional extension. Members do not need to take any action because the system will automatically update their account with these extensions on May 6, 2021.

In addition, Marriott had paused points expiration until August 1, 2021. They’ve now said they will not expire points in accounts without activity for 24 months through March 31, 2022. So if nothing else, before then you can redeem 2500 points for a $10 charitable donation to keep your account alive for another 2 years.

  1. Nice! I had them all booked barely before expiration, but this gives me some flexibility now!

  2. Marriott still hates its customers + they have no control over their properties nor do they care + Bonvoy is a dumpster-fire
