There’s a brand new Boston Celtics Credit Card from new rewards card startup Cardless. They’re coming out with cards at an impressive rate, so far centered around sports teams. These are small card portfolios, but that’s the benefit of a fintech startup, building tech that’s useful across programs and being able to work with smaller programs.
The new Boston Celtics Credit Card is interesting on a few levels.
- Initial bonus: 30,000 points After spending $2,500 in three months
- Ongoing earn: 7x Celtics tickets, rideshare services and streaming services; 4x on dining; 2x on groceries and drug stores; 1x on everything else
- Additional benefits: 10% off purchases at the online Boston Celtics shop
- Redemption options: redeem for 1 cent a point, for team merchandise (the up front bonus is enough for a signed player jersey) or worth 1.25 cents apiece for Celtics gift cards
This is interesting of course for the 7x points-earning categories, though that doesn’t represent huge spending for most people (which makes 7x possible to offer!), and even with 4x on dining this is strong earn for a no annual fee card.
I’m a Miami Marlins cardmember from Cardless and certainly the Boston Celtics fan base is bigger (but I like the cheap Marlins experiential redemptions).
Interesting this card also has a referral program, where cardmembers can refer other customers to the card and receive 10,000 points for each.
Do Cardless cards still not get credit inquiries reported?
You can only use this on Celtics stuff?
So for the redemption option, if you wanted Celtics gear wouldn’t you just buy the gift cards at 1.25 rewards and then spend the gift cards on the gear you wanted?
