New and notes from around the interweb:
- Targeted: Double Hyatt points through October 31. Reportedly some people who didn’t get the email have been able to register though it didn’t let me do so.
- Australia issues a travel warning for Hong Kong. Over the weekend I wrote that if I were a first-time tourist I’d skip it right now, but neither American nor United have issued travel waivers to let passengers reschedule. Both insist their flights are on time, thus no need to do so, which misses the point entirely. The mainland Chinese government is even encouraging Hong Kongers to push back against protesters, and they’ve mailed veiled threats about use of the military.
- Troubled Thai Airways has the go-ahead for 38 new aircraft
- New Air Tahiti Nui amenity kits made of recyclable materials, even in economy.
- LAX Terminal 6 gets Point the Way Cafe as a Priority Pass ‘lounge’ (no Amex Priority Pass cards, natch).
- Air Canada criticized for forcing woman to remove her hijab at the departure gate.
An Air Canada employee who was identified as a flight manager pulled Fatima Abdelrahman, a Muslim player on the U.S.’ Squash Team, aside and forced her to remove her hijab at the gate, during the team’s flight to Toronto from San Francisco on Aug. 1.
“The person at the gate asked me to take my headscarf off even though I had already passed security and they had checked my passport,” Abdelrahman told Canadian media.
- Domino’s Pizza is stockpiling ingredients as a hedge against no-deal Brexit. Clearly freshness is less of a concern.
- Mastercard will use blockchain to combat fashion industry fakes
Hey Gary,
I heard abt this double points promo in some other blogs also. Do you know if this is targeted that means there will be a fall promo which every year comes out in sep . Also terms for this promo state cannot be combined with other promos, what does that means ?
Regards
Hyatt rarely did this kind of exclusionary business behavior till they imported some Starwood Alumni from SPG management Into the WOH program after SPG went down the drain to Marriott
SPGs marketing consultancy was big on targeted marketing alienating members and these folks brought their special SPG poison venom marketing to Hyatt
I plan to cancel 20 nights in good community spirit to celebrate the exclusion of many in the membership base Hopefully Hyatt doesn’t get sold off to Marriott when they get done down the road
WOH member in the Sour Grapes Dept 🙂
US has now issued a travel warning for Hong Kong too.
