• Australia issues a travel warning for Hong Kong. Over the weekend I wrote that if I were a first-time tourist I’d skip it right now, but neither American nor United have issued travel waivers to let passengers reschedule. Both insist their flights are on time, thus no need to do so, which misses the point entirely. The mainland Chinese government is even encouraging Hong Kongers to push back against protesters, and they’ve mailed veiled threats about use of the military.

  An Air Canada employee who was identified as a flight manager pulled Fatima Abdelrahman, a Muslim player on the U.S.’ Squash Team, aside and forced her to remove her hijab at the gate, during the team’s flight to Toronto from San Francisco on Aug. 1.

  “The person at the gate asked me to take my headscarf off even though I had already passed security and they had checked my passport,” Abdelrahman told Canadian media.
