Official: American Express Confirms Denver Centurion Lounge

Three weeks ago I cited Denver city documents that revealed an American Express Centurion lounge would be built at the Denver airport, and that a Plaza Premium Lounge was pending approval as well.

American Express has been talking to the Denver airport about a Centurion lounge since 2011. They wanted to put one on United’s B concourse. That never happened, but the Denver City Council has approved a lease for a new Centurion lounge on the C concourse.

The lounge will be 14,650 square feet, larger than all except the proposed lounge for New York JFK. As a result of its size they’re proposing to offer a spa (similar to Dallas and Miami), kids room, and showers as well as “sweeping airfield views.”

What’s new is that American Express is actually sharing renderings of the lounge as seen from the inside the terminal:

And they’re sharing the escalator approach up to the lounge entrance, although this was also included in the packet that the City Council had in voting to approve the 10 year lease.

They’re still promising “special amenities and design elements unique to this location” rather than spilling the details on what that means.

There’s little question Denver is a great location for a Centurion lounge. It’s a major hub, and in particular a hub where American Express offers little lounge presence. In fact they say, “[i]n just the past year we’ve seen a 36 percent increase in air travel among U.S. Premium Card Members booking through Amex Travel in this market alone.” I have to wonder how much of that is Platinum cardmembers thinking they have to book through American Express to receive 5 points per dollar on airfare, and how this percentage compares to other markets.

Centurion lounge access is complimentary for Platinum Card from American Express cardholders. Everything inside – from food and alcohol to, in some lounges, spa treatments are complimentary as well). Access is also complimentary for Centurion (Black Card) cardholders of course. And no longer possible with other American Express cards.

American Express Centurion lounges currently open are Dallas Fort-Worth, Las Vegas, Miami, New York LaGuardia, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, Philadelphia and Hong Kong.

  1. Are there ever any rumblings/rumors about a Chicago club? It’s great to see all these new clubs opening but us ORD flyers feel left out.

    I’m also based out of ORD and wish for the same thing. I think the issue is space and now with the looming rebuild of the airport it may make little sense to build out a new lounge until the renovation is complete. The only logical place for a lounge I can think of is the abandoned AA Lounge at the end of T3 K Gates.

  3. Any word on ETA for the lounge? With DEN as my main airport, I’m very excited for this to finally arrive!

  7. Too bad they are putting it in the C concourse. Basically, only Southwest in in the C concouse. American, Delta are in A, while United has B. Not of much for non Southwest passengers.
