- Emirates is pricing business class one way awards 15% higher than a day ago though their mileage calculator isn’t updated. Business roundtrips are unaffected. This makes business one ways very expensive, and first class upgrades on business class paid tickets cheaper (since the latter are based on the mileage difference between business and first).
- Police department argued it was exempt from federal mask rule at airports. It wasn’t. The police chief said “no one will care.”
Horry County Police officers working at the Myrtle Beach airport since last July have failed to wear masks, seemingly in violation of the federal mask mandate that has been in place since February 2021. And though the department claimed in internal emails that it was exempt from the federal Transportation Security Administration mask rule, the TSA says that is not true. While it declined to share this information publicly, the police department argued it had an exemption from the mandate because wearing masks, it said, could pose a “health risk” to officers and prevent them from being able to properly do their jobs, according to emails obtained through the S.C. Freedom of Information Act.

Just because TSA says something doesn’t make it true. We can’t be sure what is really going on at Myrtle Beach. That being said, law enforcement all over the world have been doing their jobs with masks, heck even The US Secret Service protects the President while wearing masks so the Myrtle Beach PD come off as fools. It’s like saying I as a junior employee cannot bear to fly business class while my CEO and senior executives are all in economy on the same flight.
Mask wearing is generally not enforced in most U.S. airports although the majority of pax voluntarily comply. I’ve seen numerous unmasked individuals at DCA, including airline personnel, and no one seems to notice or care. A lot of noncompliance is by people eating or drinking while they walk around. That, combined with numerous useless cloth masks, makes the whole masking exercise pointless.

Luggage inspections are often enforced at random, which means some amount of contraband almost certainly passes through. But if there were no such thing as luggage inspections, then a larger amount of contraband would pass through. The difference between “some” and “a larger” amount may be meaningful. Therefore, the exercise is not pointless. Exercises need not be completely thorough.
Cloth masks are a good way to estimate somebody’s conscientiousness. Have you noticed that N95/KN95 wearers are generally better human beings? More educated and more intelligent?

There were mask mandates all around the world, people got the vaccine all around the world, and yet—- people still got it. Masks don’t work. I know many people who masked up, vaccined up, and still got it.

Set an example: wear them when you drive, when you are alone, and even at the beach if you go. I find that a simple mask (typical blue one) underneath a heavier N95 mask really attracts attention. I also have a huge cloth mask that I’l wear under an N95 mask. It really protrudes and so people definitely know I’m not a TRUMPER.
We can never stop wearing masks until COVID is 100% gone. We must also mandate vaccinations AT BIRTH, else the child is removed from the mother. Sorry but that’s the way it has to be! We can’t have TRUMPERS raising children!!

Preach a plant based diet low in red meat to conservatives, trying to extend their lives by greatly reducing the risk of cancers and cardiovascular diseases, and they can only cry “woke! TDS!”
Normal kids are being raised with a tolerance of and understanding all the different ways that make us human. Normal kids get physical activity, healthy diets, and the headspace to think and grow intellectually and critically into civil, productive, functioning adult members of society.

I work with over 400 law enforcement agencies and most police officers and sheriff deputies, including those in jails, haven’t been wearing masks much since the Summer of 2020. I think it started with the fact that they could do little to keep from being exposed to covid and quickly realized that the masks did little to protect them regardless of quality. Many, I’d guess most, law enforcement people have gotten covid and some have died as a result but they live with risk daily.
As a side note to all the off-topic comments. I like the “More educated and more intelligent” comment best with the “Good public policy would be to put ignorant assholes like Don to death.” coming in a close second. Sounds like something I’d hear at a KKK rally. Weird how ugly some folks have become in the past 2 years, then again maybe some people haven’t changed at all. Debit? is that you?

SC has seemingly missed the memo on masking. I’m there regularly and it is common for most people to ignore the masking. That’s been the case for over a year. Only folks who are wearing them seem to be out of staters. BTW, SC’s Covid numbers don’t appear to be a lot different from FL. Just saying. Waiting for the blowback

Masking, social distancing, and proper hygiene have dampened pandemics since the days of Nostradamus and the Bubonic Plague. It would help if these moron republikkans would read a book, instead of banning them.

Masking and social distancing would have done nothing against the bubonic plague. Hygiene is debatable, since it was most likely transmitted via flea bites.
Hygiene has not been a factor during Covid since there is little to no evidence of surface transmission. Masking has done little for the mask-wearer during most of Covid, it does help reduce the spread by people who are infected. Current strains (delta and omicron) are not really affected by the masks most people wear – cloth masks are useless against those strains. Social distancing does work indoors, but there is little science to the six foot rule – it’s one meter (3 ft) in Europe and their numbers aren’t that different from ours. In the beginning it had a lot more to do with how long one was exposed to an infected person with little air movement or filtration. Now that the more infectious strains are here, it’s basically you’re going to get it, mask or no mask, it’s just what are your symptoms going to be? Vaccinations help reduce the symptoms greatly, as does having had a previous strain.
Anything else is just theater, but you’re welcome to continue paying tribute to your Covid gods and lighting your Fauci votive candles if that makes you feel better.
