Qantas CEO Says Australia Will Re-Open To Visitors In July. Government Says Not So Fast. What’s The Truth?

Qantas started selling international tickets – for New Zealand at the end of March based on an expected ‘travel bubble’ reciprocally permitted visits between the two countries – and July 1 for the rest of their international route network including the United States. The CEO of Qantas, Alan Joyce, said he expected the country to re-open to international travel at that time.

The government of Australia was none too amused with Joyce’s announcement but they didn’t deny it.

United Will Fly Los Angeles – Sydney With Just 50 Passengers Every Flight

New Australian COVID Outbreak Linked To Sex Scandal In Quarantine Hotels

Australia has fewer than 8500 total confirmed cases of COVID-19. The country’s success appears to be a combination of effective policy response and luck.

International arrivals of their own citizens required quarantine. But it’s those quarantine facilities that are the site of a new virus outbreak in Melbourne – and also of a sex scandal. Because the guards were having sex with the passengers being quarantined, and exposing themselves to the virus.

Airlines are waiving change fees for travel booked now, so if you do have to change your planes you’ll at least get a full travel credit without penalty to use on a future trip. Hopefully this is far enough out that we can travel again without worry!

Here’s What it Takes to Get Fired as a Flight Attendant in Australia

It’s difficult to get hired on as an employee in many professions in Australia because it’s so difficult to get fired, and because benefits can be so generous. Frequently workers are taken on as contractors rather than employees.

Qantas has learned this over and over, for instance when a flight attendant was awarded six months’ pay because the government determined it was ‘harsh’ to fire him after he was found with “a can and a bottle of beer in his jacket, two 50ml bottles of vodka in his trousers and a 50ml bottle of gin in his bag” as he got off a flight.

Australia Bans the 737 MAX

Australia has temporarily banned the 737 MAX. This affects only Fiji Airways which operates Boeing 737 MAX 8s on Australia routes.

Aeromexico has grounded its 737 MAX aircraft. Groundings have occurred in Argentina and Brazil. In the US Senators Diane Feinstein and Richard Blumenthal, clearly aviation experts themselves, have called for the grounding of the plane.
