On an American Airlines flight from Charlotte to Cancun, one passenger stood up in the aisle and delivered her own safety briefing—covering exits, oxygen masks, and flotation devices with perfect cadence. The cabin laughed, listened, and even called for her to be hired after her now-iconic line: “Mask gon’ fall down, kick your feet!”

90 Seconds To Escape The Plane: Your Carry-On Bag Could Kill—But Is A Selfie Even Worse?
In an aircraft fire, passengers have just 90 seconds to escape—and grabbing a carry-on or stopping for a selfie could be what dooms everyone behind them. The FAA wants safety videos updated to address passenger bags but that’s unlikely to help.
Watch United Airlines Epic New Safety Video As FAA Clears Airline To Grow
United Airlines has released its new safety video. The timing here likely is not a coincidence. They were presumably holding onto it – but now that the FAA is lifting restrictions on the airline put in place as part of a safety audit, highlighting the airline’s safety is perfect timing.
American’s ‘New’ Three Year Old Safety Video Finally Rolls Out
It’s not clear how many people appear in ‘Safety at Scale’ but the meaning here suggests scale in a couple of key scenes, using people to do things like form the American Airlines logo and a no smoking sign, and to suggest just how large American Airlines is.
This new video isn’t as chic as the last one. Still, it’s visually interesting.
Delta’s ‘Queer Eye’ Safety Video That Will Never Be Seen On Board
I’m not sure how much value ‘fun’ safety videos actually ad. Do they get us to pay attention? Perhaps, but I’m not sure they get us to understand, internalize, and remember the safety information. Perhaps we focus on and remember the non-safety elements to the exclusion of the information that’s more important.
I love creativity in these videos anyway. They’re fun, they make me smile. Queer Eye (née Queer Eye For The Straight Guy) doesn’t do it for me per se, I’m beyond reclamation, but I applaud the attempt nonetheless.
Alaska Airlines Updates The Safety Dance With Cameos From Across oneworld And It’s AMAZING
In December Alaska Airlines introduced The Safety Dance, taking the Men Without Hats’ classic and applying it to air travel during the Covid-19 pandemic.
To celebrate joining the global oneworld alliance today, Alaska Airlines has released a new version of their Safety Dance featuring cameos by employees and executives from oneworld partner airlines. It may just be the best thing that happened in March.
Air France Has A New Safety Video, And It’s The Least Covid Thing Ever
Under normal circumstances I’d say it was serviceable, fine, but hardly interesting or innovative by modern standards. Yet there’s one salient feature to it: a 2021 safety video that makes no reference whatsoever to Covid-19. Nobody is even wearing masks. They’re crowded into a theater, for instance – a packed house – and no one is the least bit concerned about spread in such an indoor congregant setting.
Some might call that tough deaf, but I love it – a paean to normalcy:
OMG Why Did No Airline Think Of This Before? “The Safety Dance”
Airlines have gone to some real lengths in recent years to make their safety videos memorable and sometimes funny. Often they’re just trying too hard. Some carriers like American Airlines have stayed away from this entirely with their new safety video, released by mistake.
Despite all of the effort and money that’s gone into safety videos, it’s apparently never occurred to anyone with enough influence to use Men Without Hats The Safety Dance – until now. How is this possible?
Ouch: The New American Airlines Safety Video Is Full Of People Who No Longer Work At American
The new American Airlines safety video was supposed to debut back in April. It was delayed due to the pandemic. They queued it for December rollout, but decided it wasn’t a good time and tried to pull it back.
Many of the employees featured in the safety video are… no longer employees. They’ve been furloughed since the video was shot.
Here’s The New American Airlines Safety Video, Now Accidentally Playing On 70 Aircraft
Back in April I shared details of the new American Airlines safety video. The airline held off releasing it because of the Covid-19 pandemic. I only posted an 18 second snippet to offer a taste, looking forward to the airline’s planned release.
Now, however, the video is playing temporarily on 70 aircraft so I’m happy to share it in full.
