A young woman flying cross country found herself in the gate area noticing a demanding passenger. This older woman, with a six or seven year old son, was “demanding things from the airport staff.”
Once the plane boarded this passenger went to her middle seat, only to find that the mother and son showed up at her row. They were assigned the window and aisle seats and she was between them.
A passenger on a Southwest Airlines flight from Washington DC to Dallas snapped a photo of an entire row of seats blocked off using bags of donuts. The passenger who did it wasn’t even seated in the row but nearby, saving those seats for their family.
Passengers in the exit row have to be willing to assist in an emergency. But if they’re drinking they may be impaired in their ability to assist.
For years airlines ‘gave away the value of seat assignments for free’ to customers. That’s no longer true. And the tax code encourages airlines to charge for seats, too. One passenger’s refusal to give up his window seat to a child resulted in a confrontational exchange with the mother, where he delivered a sharp retort after she threatened him with a disruptive flight due to her screaming child.
Open seating on Southwest Airlines means Lord Of The Flies… or sometimes Thunderdome. That doesn’t work for everyone, but I actually like it.

Here, there’s a herringbone arrangement with passengers seated at a 49 degree angle, away from the window. And to pack in as many seats as possible, the patented seat creates an area that is shared between passengers – one passenger gets shoulder space, while the passenger beside them gets lower arm space – all in the name of cabin density.

An aggressive passenger in the American Airlines forum on Reddit declares that (1) passengers should not recline their seats, and (2) seats should not recline. Calling seat recliners “entitled,” the passenger says that if a passenger in front of them reclines they’ll “tug on” their seat and “do whatever I can to make yo[ur] trip miserable.”
And since this is a commonly-held view, it seems to be one worth correcting.
