Spirit Airlines Crisis Deepens With Another Major Round Of Route Cuts In Bid To Avoid Collapse

Oct 26 2024

The business model isn’t working. They don’t have long haul international service that customers have wanted to buy. They don’t have airline partnerships to sell those products on other carriers, or pick up connecting traffic from other airlines either. And they’ve been the downmarket product that’s very much out of favor, as customers have increasingly been interested in paying more for a better experience. (Spirit has even shifted its business model chasing that business.)

Spirit Airlines’ $3.3 Billion Debt Crisis: Can Planned Bankruptcy, Route Cuts, And Shedding Aircraft Keep It Flying?

Oct 04 2024

Spirit Airlines is in talks with bondholders about a pre-packaged bankruptcy that would allow the airline to reduce debt in exchange for equity. She continues her rant to passengers waiting for their flight to Las Vegas, “everyone’s gonna shut up and we’re gonna say this once, and we’ll only gonna say this again ’cause we’re frustrated as hell!” Maybe she’s referring to the flight delay or maybe she’s referring to all of the airline’s fees. Either way, the crowd erupts!

May 23 2024

The recent FAA Reauthorization Bill contains 5 new roundtrips that DOT can assign ‘beyond the perimeter’ and airlines are jockeying for those. What’s odd, though is that Spirit Airlines is asking for National Airport to San Jose, the new slots are limited to incumbent airlines at the airport, and Spirit doesn’t serve National airport.
