In the middle of the month, Starwood ran a promotion offering 25% off hotel night award redemption for platinum members. They apparently had some bumps in notifying members (though readers of this blog were well-informed). As a result, they’ve extended the offer. Via Starwood Lurker on Flyertalk:[T]hrough midnight Eastern US time on Monday, May 30th, Platinum members can make their plans online at spg.com and then call the Platinum Concierge line to make use of the FRED redemption code for a 25% off savings. The same Terms and Conditions apply that were in effect previously. This is for award stays booked through Wednesday, August 31st only.

25% Off Starwood Award Redemption for Platinums

Platinum members of Starwood Preferred Guest can redeem award nights for stays through August 31, 2005 for 25% off the usual points — but the offer is valid for bookings made this week only. Since these reservations are fully changeable/cancellable you’d be advised to make bookings you think you might need now. Note that if you have to change the reservation later, you’re likely to have to redeposit the award and book a new one at the usual point level.

Discounted award nights in Southeast Asia

Starwood is offering 25% off the points cost of award nights at several hotels in Southeast Asia for stays through the end of May. While Starwood seems to offer such discounts across the board for about a week during the summer, they don’t seem to often offer promotions like this: discounts at properties during their slow seasons. Of course, Starwood offers cash and points awards and properties that participate are usually facing their slow seasons. But it’s rare that they offer similar discounts on all-points awards. Good move, Starwood!

American Express is offering a 50% bonus on transfers to Starwood through March 31. Instead of the usual ratio of 3 Amex points to 1 Starwood point, this offer improves the exchange to 2:1.

America West Improves Credit Card Signup Bonus

The offer for an America West Visa Platinum has improved — 10,000 bonus miles after your first purchase if you apply online.That just more or less brings the signup bonus to industry norms, and so I’d only get this card (which comes with an annual fee) if I really wanted America West miles in particular, though other cards like the Starwood American Express will still earn the points more efficiently for regular spending.
