American Airlines has been highlighting ‘a deal a day’ to various destinations, like Hawaii and the Caribbean. Today’s deal is Europe from $599 roundtrip.
Nabbing these fares requires booking January 12 – 19, 2021 with at least 28 days’ advance purchase – although I’m actually finding the fare for travel even today when searching Miami – Sevilla, Spain. The lowest fare is basic economy, which really just means you’ll pay for advance seat assignments (which most non-elites would wind up doing if they want better seats anyway) and no elite status-earning credit.
However the terms and conditions of this deal do not make any sense to me.

I’m not even sure how to comply with these rules, which is scary to me since when you break American’s rules they will confront you at the airport and send you a bill for $1000.
Moreover airline terms are crucial since carriers argue that under the Airline Deregulation Act you can only sue them for breach of their own terms, since state-level contract claims imposing a ‘duty of good faith and fair dealing’ would be state regulations of airlines which was pre-empted by that 1978 federal legislation.
How would an airline ever violate Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, which “comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC.”? Ironically for an airline, that’s a treatise on ethics…
Hi Gary, in publishing and graphic design Lorem ipsum is a placeholder text commonly used to demonstrate the visual form of a document or a typeface without relying on meaningful content. Lorem ipsum may be used as a placeholder before a final copy is available as it should stick out. We use it all the time in PowerPoint with the equation =lorem(N) where N is the number of paragraphs you want the text to appear. Seems like American posted a draft version of the terms.
@Bill – indeed, that’s something explained in a site I link to, this is just my sense of humor (however dry it may be)
Oh Bill. Gary, I get your dry humor.
AMERICAN Airlines should use ENGLISH for their terms, not that fancy foreign LATIN crap.
How’s that?
They want to post the terms and conditions in Klingon so there will be no confusion.
Spanish? I guess it is a joke that American Airlines is trying to make. Crazy!!
Wasn’t it Cicero who famously said “Illegitimi Non Carborundum”?
pretium quod ego emere tessera. Quid mihi et tibi obtinuit solvere?
