News and notes from around the interweb:
- The new American Airlines headquarters will be named for Bob Crandall
- FAA grounds West Texas charter operator, 22 years overdue on engine maintenance. This isn’t the first time they lost their air certificate over maintenance issues.
An April investigation by the FAA found that the left engine on that aircraft hadn’t been overhauled since 1982. FAA regulations require that type of engine to be overhauled after 1,400 flight hours or every 12 years, meaning Western Air Express’s engine should have been serviced in 1994 and again in 2006.
- Local girl still wears Qantas pyjamas to remind you that she once flew business (humor)
“They’re not even that comfortable, but then again, neither are Jimmy Choos,” she said.
- Airbus slide deck (.pdf), how they’re selling the Airbus A380. Many of these pages seem disingenous at best or tell only a piece of the story.
- Airport security in Austria stopped a woman “with a bag containing her husband’s entrails” — and it turns out, she wasn’t breaking any laws.
- Head for Points reminds that you can still get 250 free Avios by pre-registering for the new Aer Lingus program.
- Uber looking to offer short haul flying within cities and projects this being real in a decade.
Called VTOL—which stands for vertical takeoff and landing—Holden said that he has been researching the area, “so we can someday offer our customers as many options as possible to move around.” He added that “doing it in a three-dimensional way is an obvious thing to look at.”
Am I the only one who sees an issue with these two statements?
“An April investigation by the FAA found that the left engine on that aircraft hadn’t been overhauled since 1982. FAA regulations require that type of engine to be overhauled after 1,400 flight hours or every 12 years, meaning Western Air Express’s engine should have been serviced in 1994 and again in 2006.”
“Western Air Express’ air certificate was previously suspended by the FAA in 2009 for similar maintenance issues.”
Doesn’t logic dictate that in 2009, that in 2009 the left engine was 15 year overdue for service? How did they get their air certificate back if they didn’t do the proper maintenance in 2009?
My wife still wears here Virgin Atlantic First Class PJ’s all the time, around the house, she says there super comfortable and warm.
Sorry in advance.
That woman in Austria had a lot of guts, doing what she did…
