News notes from around the interweb:
- Hotel room demand has ticked up slightly for the third consecutive week
- Could British Airways parent IAG build a hub at Vienna using LEVEL if Lufthansa scales back Austrian?
- British Airways said they aren’t getting a bailout but they actually already got one.
- The U.K. is going to require British Airways and American to give up slots at London Heathrow and Gatwick in order to renew their anti-trust immunized joint venture. They want competition on London – Boston, Dallas and Miami (could be a way in for JetBlue).
- What it’s like working as a flight attendant during COVID-19
- Los Angeles wants to ‘commandeer’ luxury hotels to house the homeless
- Wow.
This is pretty incredible: Extended Stay America has all hotel properties open & 61% occupancy rate in April. They have more hotels with greater than 80% occupancy than those below 50%. pic.twitter.com/yByJCvSlyK

You mean the LA government wants to keep people employed by paying the room rate for hotels in the city? These are properties that took tax dollars happily to be built and open…now when the government needs them, and is willing to PAY them, they are refusing it. If there was a hurricane or flood, would this be an issue?! No…the issue is classism. The government wants to help its citizens, which in THIS case happen to be homeless.
You know what? I don’t care about what the flight attendants think, or, for the most part, how they are affected! Most all are condescending & snooty (imo) not a good representation for the airline. Admittedly I am almost always a “coach” passenger so it may be that my outlook is different from the first or business class passengers. This pandemic is changing everything, with some of it for the good
What is it like to work as a FA now? For the vast majority, it’s sitting at home watching netflix, while cashing checks paid for by you and me.
