WHOOPS: Visa Pulls Hotel Deal of the Year Early

Two days ago I posted about the hotel deal of the year:

  • A free night on stays of 2 nights or longer at Waldorf=Astoria, Conrad, and Hilton’s Curio hotels. I suggested you could use this as half off any even numbered night stay if you’re traveling with someone.
  • Plus a $75 rebate
  • And a $25 food and beverage credit
  • And free breakfast, upgrade, and late checkout
  • Eligible for Hilton points and even double points

The deal was supposed to be available for bookings through December 31 for stays through March 31 (with the $75 gift card rebate available only once, on bookings made by November 30 for stays through February 28).

This was an amazing deal, plenty of people made bookings right away as I suggested. However I wrote that I expected “Visa will stand behind it” I also thought it was too good and that they would “end the promotion early” — which is exactly what they’ve done.

Congratulations to everyone that made their bookings right away!

The $75 gift card offer, which is stackable with Visa hotel benefits like the food and beverage credit, upgrade, etc. and which earns Hilton points and bonuses, remains available. Since that’s available even for a one night stay there’s still real value.

    I booked a back to back two stays of 2 days with my spouse at Grand Wailea Maui. Do you think they will have a problem when we check in with her name after 2 days and use her card.

  3. Gary, can you do something to make the boxes with text information enlarge? There are so many boxes on this site that are interesting to read but the print is so tiny they’re unreadable. An example is the Hilton free night box shown in your article today.

    Other websites make it possible to click and enlarge, so I know it can be done. Please consider this.

  5. Gary, if you have a screen shot showing the $75 offer on the same page as the BOGO, could you post it or email it? I think it will be needed to get the gift card.

  6. Maybe I misread something, but you need to book by Oct 31 for the $75…You have November 30. I booked two nights in NOLa and two nights in Paris the day the offer came out. “Good deal” and “Hilton” rarely occur in the same sentence…
