Wide Open Using Your Miles: Fly Business Class To Europe On Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is out with its new monthly Spontaneous Escapes, discounted award deals available for booking through August 31 and travel in September.

U.S. routes being offered at 30% off:

  • New York JFK – Frankfurt: 56,700 miles each way in business class and 36,400 miles in premium economy (New York to Frankfurt Eastbound blacked out September 20 – 23, 2024)
  • Los Angeles – Singapore: 52,500 miles in premium economy
  • Singapore to New York JFK: (one way only) 56,350 miles in premium economy (September 1-8, 2024 blacked out.)
  • Newark – Singapore: 56,350 miles in premium economy

Whenever an airline discounts awards on a route, it’s worth checking to see whether availability is really good. Usually a discount corresponds to a flight being lightly booked.

Similarly, when a flight is new it often takes awhile to book up, and award space can be good. Or an airline might initially load inventory for a new flight with plenty of space.

Singapore’s “fifth freedom” flights to Europe and Asia can be boons for award space. Indeed this corresponds with the airline planning to drop Houston – Manchester, U.K. in the spring.

The New York JFK – Frankfurt route is another one that often has copious amounts of business class award space. And not just for the period of this promotion, and not just with Singapore miles. Plus, not just two seats either. I’m seeing plenty of dates with four and even six award seats in business.

While you can book for 56,700 KrisFlyer points with this promotion, you can book for 60,000 Air Canada Aeroplan points any time. (Outside of the promotion period, expect to pay 81,000 KrisFlyer points.)

  • Award space is even better in October than September, is great during the low winter season, and also good at the end of the schedule in July. Singapore regularly releases award space when they open their schedules.

  • You’ll want to book this through Air Canada Aeoplan when saver space is available. Singapore often has space available with their own miles at a premium of ~ 20,000 points.

  • American Express, Chase, Capital One and Bilt transfer to Aeroplan. American Express, Chase, Capital One and Citi transfer to Singapore Airlines.

Singapore Airlines is a great way to get to Europe. You can add flights beyond Frankfurt on Lufthansa using Aeroplan or with Singapore’s Star Alliance award chart. But this flight across the Pond is a good experience.
