On April 10 American Airlines will launch a new domestic first class morning snack basket.
- Mainline departures between 5 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. for flights 176 – 699 miles
- Regional carrier departures between 5 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. for flights 176 – 899 miles
- Second service on domestic flights 2200 miles and longer
- Eastbound flights departing after 8 p.m.
These snack baskets will include: 180 Snacks Almond Rice Pops w/Cranberries (5); Java Up Caramel Macchiato Coffee Fueled Energy Bar (4); Peterson’s Sea Salted Mixed Nuts (5); Kitchun No-Grain-Ola Holy-Coco-Cacao (4); Rip Van Wafels Dutch Caramel & Vanilla Wafel (4); MadeGood Mixed Berry Granola Bar (5).
The Rip Van Wafels to my mind are ‘fake stroopwafels’ and not as good.
Also on April 10 a new premium cabin PM Snack Basket launches.
- Mainline departures 9:46 a.m. – 8 p.m. for flights 176 – 699 miles
- Regional carrier departures 9:46 a.m. – 8 p.m. for flights 176 – 899 miles
- Second service on domestic flights 2200 miles and longer
These snack baskets will include: Angie’s Boom Chicka Pop Sea Salt Popcorn (4); Boulder Canyon Sea Salt Kettle Cooked Chips (5); Mrs. Thinster’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Thins (3); Peterson’s Sea Salted Mixed Nuts (5); Blue Diamond Hint of Sea Salt Mini Nut Thins (4); Kopper’s Milk & Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Bites (4); Love, Corn Smoked BBQ Corn Nuts.
And by the way American Eagle flights operated by Mesa Airlines on CRJ-700 aircraft will see biscotti replace Milano cookies on lunch and dinner tray setups because they have too much stock of biscotti from their previous first class morning snack basket that they want to draw down.
Gone are the only two edible thing in the basket. The Lorissa’s Kitchen beef jerky and Clif bars.
The new basket has a lot of duplicates involving one of the three – chocolate, corn based, nut based.
Going to last. No milanos and no jerky wtf
The Rip Van Waffles are better than the other brand they have there now which is not as chewy.
I wonder why American Airlines hates Milano cookies so much. Maybe they are afraid we’d eat too many of them.
I flew First Class on Mesa DBA American Eagle and they had Korean BBQ beef jerky, very tasty and One Potato two potato kettle potato chips.
Weird that they went with popcorn, the moisture and air in popcorn make it a terrible choice at altitude. United specifically says no popcorn in their requests.
Its all simply disgusting and awful but at least American is incredibly consistent that way
Lesson: bring your own snacks. There are plenty of good ones available.
Dammit! I want that beef jerky, that’s the one thing I was able to eat! Don’t give me a bunch of cookies, I’m not four years old! Come on!
Where’s my breakfast?
This isn’t food. It’s highly processed sugar-laden bleached rubbish.
@Leef33
Lesson: vote with the wallet and fly another airline.
699 miles = DFW-Moline Illinois (691 miles) = 1h58m. It’s disgraceful that on a 2 hour flight over dinner they can’t even serve a meal.
Yeah, that will fix the revenue premium problem at AA. Geniuses!
To: dwondermeant Sounds like your brain is flawed from rubbish? I mean, blanched unsalted almonds? LOL You’re a pompous arrogant flier that’s likely comping on bonbons and Oreo’s as you read this article. So refined! LOL
The Lorissa’s Kitchen Jerky was great, but now that you’ve introduced quality lean and tender meat protein, how about Perky Jerky? So many good options on Jerky. If not Lorissa, Perky or Golden Palace would be welcome.
What’s in the basket? Crumbs and smashed chips.
I suppose AA’s mission statement is ‘to get people from a to b’, they’re showing that’s all their good for.
So the only edible sugar-free option is mixed nuts, which is most likely oversalted. Nice.
I’m somewhat happy that they’re offering a grain-free option — but it looks like it’s got chocolate in/on it. Blarf!
Now I’ve seen and read it all. Adult, grown-up, business travellers pouting and reacting like third graders because there were no Milano cookers, or Rip Van Waffles, or Lorissa’s Beef Jerky, or One Potato, Two Potatoe Chips. Is this “stuff” free or do they sell it?
Perhaps some of you can use your mileage points for Anger Management Seminars!
I was a flight attendant on one of the “Big Three “ for seventeen years and never touched, let alone ate” one singulat crumb of the food onboard in the galleries of those aircraft. Watching an adult with Tumi luggage go into a rage because the croissants were gone and they were left with a muffin was a great humorous way to start my day! Or even better, in the days of children’s Happy Meals, grown parents asking to see the Captain because Tommy didn’t, get an airplane in the box, but rather a tow-truck! Another Captain received a tongue lashing because warmed mixed nuts were usually served on the evening flights between ORD and LGA. Someone dropped the ball and we only had bags of pretzels. Perhaps we could have
rectified the situation with a Rip Van Waffle!?
It keeps getting worser and worser…Thanks U.S. Air…
To Paul:
And there you have it – Why US airlines are the worst. As an airline steward, you should have been taught that one of it’s biggest assets is service. If you promise to deliver crap and then deliver on the promise, that’s fine. But if you purport to be a service oriented operation – particularly in premium cabins – and then serve up this type of shit aided by care-less individuals like yourself, then . . . . . .
That’s why US airlines are what they are.
@Paul: You remind me of the nurse I had in the emergency room who took delight at causing me pain finding a vein to poke. Finding humor at people getting upset isn’t the sign of someone who should be working in a service-oriented job.
Please don’t go into nursing.
I suppose the $68 per hour AA is paying flight attendants allowed you to retire . Thank god, now you can bitch like every other senior citizen.
A lasting stigma on American business is the lack of competition secured by the aggressive years of M&A that left us with but 3 mega carriers. Although one would think the failure on service, food, etc of the US3 would create a true opportunity for a new carrier to wedge itself into the market, good luck. Between the US3 and those on the bottom wrung (Spirit, Frontier), they have more up their sleeves to prevent any new entrant than what even Braniff attempted against Southwest in 1971.
The only hope for meaningful respite from this deep dive to the bottom is to legislate to allow cabotage. In 1984, I remember taking a Swiss Air flight from Zurich-Boston-Chicago; certainly would have been beneficial to allow traffic between BOS-ORD.
Just amazing how these self-appointed financial wizards took an industry and turned it into crap, despite how AA’s Robert Crandall still knew in post de-regulation how to provide proper customer experience and food. Today, not everybody wants to burn their cash on less than acceptable premium seating; but also do not want to end cup in a back brace or throw a pulmonary embolism.
This looks like JetBlue’s unlimited snack basket. Except JetBlue’s is for economy and it’s free.
Those Rip Van Wafers are so nasty i’m sorry I wouldn’t want to eat so many calories and it taste so bad.
