Flight Attendant Dumps a Tray of Drinks on American Airlines CEO Doug Parker

An American Airlines flight attendant shares her Phoenix – Dallas story. America West-turned-US Airways was based near the Phoenix airport, but when that management took over American Airlines the combined carrier’s headquarters remained at Dallas Fort-Worth.

The airline’s CEO Doug Parker was on the flight. Otherwise the flight was normal. As crew member Maddie shares, “I was just doing my job being the good little flight attendant I am, serving my predeparture drinks.” Already Maddie is to be commended, getting drinks for first class passengers during boarding! And it wasn’t just juice and water, she reports she was serving “sparkling water and jack and cokes.”

However she had “a tray of about 8 drinks on it” when a passenger right in front of her “stops in the aisle and backs up,” she was at row 3 and the drinks “hit[..] the tray and the drinks go flying.” And they went all over… CEO Doug Parker! In an instagram story she shares “I dumped 8
drinks on our CEO.” She got wet, too.

Guess who they land on. Half of them were all over me, the other half in Doug’s lap. I WAS MORTIFIED, I wanted to drop dead right there in the aisle. (Like am I still employed?!) Luckily he was cool about it came back and we talked, we joked about it [t]he rest of the flight.

When he was getting off the plane he told me he’d never forget me…. guess that’s a good thing right?

Story time with @maddieryanee ! So yesterday I worked a flight from Phoenix to Dallas. I had our CEO (Doug Parker) on my flight. I was just doing my job being the good little flight attendant I am, serving my predeparture drinks. I have a tray of about 8 drinks on it when the passenger in front of me stops in the aisle and backs up. Hits the tray and the drinks go flying. Guys I have worked for American Airlines for 4 years, and not once have I ever spilt a drink on a passenger. Guess who they land on. Half of them were all over me, the other half in Doug’s lap. I WAS MORTIFIED, I wanted to drop dead right there in the aisle. (Like am I still employed?!) Luckily he was cool about it came back and we talked, we joked about it he rest of the flight. When he was getting off the plane he told me he’d never forget me…. guess that’s a good thing right? Most people never even meet their CEO let alone shower them in sparkling water and jack and cokes. OOPS!!

Fortunately for her, Parker is a pretty good sport overall. For instance here he is as Boy George for Halloween this past fall (he says ‘this is how we’re making culture a competitive advantage’):

He spent the rest of the flight joking with flight attendant Maddie about it — but she shares that he didn’t let her serve him any more drinks for the rest of the flight.

For her part she says she’s been working for American for four years, and before this flight had never spilled a drink on a passenger. When she broke her streak, she broke it big!

  1. Maybe she shouldn’t have been carrying a full tray of drinks. Delta is the king or queen of pre-departure beverages. It’s seldom you see more than four or five drinks on a tray at once.

  2. Put the bugger in coach so he can feel the pain and give a vet or fireman your FC seat unless you are truly classless.

  3. So…this will be the new excuse for cutting pre-departure drinks now. Because FA’s can’t do it safely. Watch.

  4. According to popular websites, there are many uses for Coca-Cola. One such listing begins with using it to clean toilet bowls. This use of Coke can be placed at #1!

  5. Doug is used to smelling like Jack and Coke, so no harm no foul. Also, is it just me or does that pic make him look like Woody Harrelson?

  6. He was my boss back in America West/US Airways days, and he often said he had no problem flying coach. He’s feeling his oats now, I guess.

  7. @Peggy. Wasn’t coach, even in American West/US Airways nicer back then.
