Alaska Airlines Running “Buy One Get One” 50% Off Deal To Celebrate The Safety Dance

Alaska Airlines is running a ‘Buy One Get One’ sale which amounts to 50% off when two people are traveling using promo code LETSGO when booked by Monday, February 8, 2021. It’s the Safety Dance BOGO since Alaska is using its ‘Men Without Hats’ parody on Covid safety as a Superbowl ad in select West Coast markets.

  • Travel dates: Valid for travel February 16 – May 26, 2021
  • Day of week: Travel to Hawaii is valid Sundays – Wednesdays; Travel from Hawaii is valid Tuesdays – Fridays; Travel to/from all other cities in the US and Canada is valid Mondays – Thursdays
  • 10% Off: Other days of the week, solo travel, and first class tickets

This offer gets you 50% off the base fare of both coach tickets, and no change fees apply (Alaska is waiving cancellation fees on basic economy fares through March 31, 2021).

Men Without Hats released their original Safety Dance in 1982, and it took until now for an airline to truly promote its own version. The original is a protest song against disco clubs of the 80s. Lead singer Ivan Doroschuk was kicked out of a club for pogoing. Disco dancing was done with partners, while new wave dancing was done solo – and pogoing was jumping up and down, it eventually led to slamdancing.

This was seen as a threat to disco, and disco dancers, so bouncers would kick people out of their clubs. The Safety Dance demands freedom of expression. The safety video demands a certain conformity (safety precautions during Covid-19) that we hope won’t last past summer.

S-A-F-E-T-Y safety dance /
We can fly where you want to, we can leave your house behind, but if your friends don’t mask and why don’t they mask well they won’t fly this airline /
You can fly if you wan to ’cause we do safety right, we have air that’s clean and disinfectant machines zapping germs like an arcade space fight /
And we dance, do the dance, everybody wash some hands /
Do the dance, do the dance, while always wearing a mask /
Do the dance, do the dance, no seriously please wash your hands /
Do the dance, do the dance, HEPA filters cleaning commence /
Alaska’s safety dance, Alaska’s safety dance, Alaska’s safety dance…

Alaska is offering Buy One Get One (traveling in pairs) but the Safety Dance was all about traveling solo. Wouldn’t a straight 50% off be more fitting? Either way book quick if interested.

  1. I’ve never flown Alaska Air although I did spend some time in their Seattle Club after returning from an Alaskan Cruise. Can anyone comment on the level of service, crews, etc. I’m ditching AA and looking for alternatives when I have to fly domestic.

  2. @ Gary — This is useless since they aren’t good for F and Alaska is blocking all U space. Plus of course, March 31 is useless.

  3. @OneXMarine: I’m on West Coast so have flown numerous times on Alaska and I’m a fan! Good service and I love their FF program and they’ve made it much easier to reach Elite status. They often have good fare sales like these and I’ve booked numerous flights with these discounts for far out travel and place-holder reservations. No fees now for changes and cancellations make it easy to plan some tentative trips. Lounges are decent (I’ve only been to their LAX, JFK and SEA). They have 3 lounges in SEA and the Flagship Lounge there is very nice, in my opinion. The FA’s don’t have attitude and I’ve found in general competent and service-oriented staff, including Gate Agents and agents on phone and live chat. I mostly fly west coast routes but have done a few to East Coast (BOS, JFK and DCA). Their 1st Class is not Lie-Flat seats but comfortable recliner seats. They are blocking middle seats in Premium (the section behind 1st class) on their non-regional planes. They also have a 20min baggage guarantee.

I avoid AA and UA, and fly Delta and SW. But I’ve switched to Alaska exclusively this past year when pandemic started – their price is very competitive if you plan ahead. The only downside is that right now, they often publish many options at booking and then consolidate flights close in, so you may not get the flight you reserved! So keep checking schedules.

I’m a solo traveler so the BOGO sales in general not as lucrative of a discount w/o a companion. But I still find value in booking Main or 1st class with 10% discount and fares are generally cheaper during promo. Hope this helps and I’d definitely recommend giving them a try 🙂
