Note that I do not receive referral credit for this offer at the time of this writing.
British Airways and Chase are back with a 100,000 Avios signup bonus.
You will get 50,000 bonus Avios after $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.2
25,000 bonus Avios after $10,000 in purchases within the first year of account opening.2
Plus an additional 25,000 bonus Avios after you make an additional $10,000 in purchases also within the first year of account opening.2
Together that’s 100,000 bonus Avios, which is enough for a round-trip business class award flight.3 Taxes, fees, and carrier charges are approximately $1,250 per adult in business class based on travel from Seattle to London.4
As with offers for this card over the past year and a half, you need to spend $20,000 within a year to get the full 100,000 points. The real value — although you are restricted to British Airways flights and thus availability on those flights — comes at $30,000 in spend when you earn a ‘travel together’ ticket that lets you take a second award passenger on the same trip for no additional miles. The annual fee is not waived the first year.
Here’s how to unlock the value of British Airways points, especially in light of the fact that the program adds fuel surcharges onto the cost of award tickets.

Do you think we’re eligible for the bonus if we has this card several years ago (definitely more than 2 years)?
how long will this be around for
I am still stuck with the last bonus offer of 100,000. Coming out of SFO, I don’t see much use besides Hawaii. I think east coast is where the main action is.
@caveman There are some good short hop uses from SFO, but yes it is more limited.
Do you know if chase would match this offer for me, I got the card 2 months back.
If I get the companion ticket, do I have to use it on a BA flight or can use it on AA booking via BA’s site/agents since they are partners?
Last time there was a trick whereby someone booking a flight would be offered a BA Credit card at checkout, which could be used to fulfill buying the ticket. That offer gave 50k on approval, and 50k at the anniversary. No annual fees were waived, but avoided 20k in spend. Any investigation as to whether that has come back too?
I see UA offering 100K offers in the near future. This is the way the game is played now.
Anybody know if the initial $2k spend counts toward the first $10k spend?
@ Nick – I second you. No one should be surprised if UA comes up with such a bonus.
This will be my third go-round on the BA 100K deal. I was waiting for them to go up from 50, but the spend is pretty large this time around.
Thanks Gary
@Tim – the answer is yes.
And I too would like a refresher on churning rules for Chase cards.
Do we know how long this offer is til? Would like to do this in parallel for the travel companion bonus but since that is per calendar year, no point in signing up until Jan 1 2014.
@Tim yes the initial $2k spend counts towards the first $10k
@@Kevin the companion award is for BA flights only
If I canceled this card a year ago, how long do I have to wait before I can get this card again with the bonus?
How many Chase cards can I have at one time?
similar question to Carberrie, i had the first 100k card, are others having success getting the new 100k deals? doesn’t look like T&C allows it. I want to know if others had success.
@Jonathan: which “first 100k card” do you mean? When specifically did you get/cancel your “first 100k card”?
@Chris – You’ve had the Chase BA card more than once and have gotten the bonuses each time?
@Ken,
Yes, both my wife and I have….hoping it works again this time!
@colleen, i think it was literally the first time they offered a 100k bonus, maybe 2010, canceled 11 months later to bit get annual fee
@Chris – Did you close the cards before reapplying again? If so, how much time did you wait from canceling the first and applying for the second? How much time from approval of card #1 to card #2?
@Jonathan – the reason I asked is because I think BA introduced the Avios program in Nov 11. Based on this, you’d have a pretty convincing case that you haven’t had an avios-earning card before.
The cards were cancelled about 6 months after getting them and new cards were applied for about 9 months later
@Chris – Thanks. We both still have our BA cards since we just got the 50k anniversary bonus, plus we’re holding onto them to horse trade when needed.
@Chris, usually when you apply it asks if you have a miles number, should i leave it blank, then call customer service to merge the accounts, or go ahead and fill in the account number now?
1/17/2014 – seems like this offer has gone, correct?
Gone
Thanks.
