Mastercard has a new promotion offering a $50 discount on an American Airlines flight if you make a booking on the AA.com website by September 30, 2021. You’ll receive a code for $50 off your next trip.
- You must be an AAdvantage member prior to registering for the offer.
- Pay for the flight with a U.S. Mastercard credit card (corporate cards excluded) by September 30. It doesn’t have to be an American Airlines co-brand Mastercard.
- The first 100,000 who qualify will receive their $50 off code on or about November 11, 2021, but not later than November 25, 2021.
- Code can be used on a ticket for travel November 11, 2021 – March 15, 2022, booked at AA.com for travel on American-operated flights originating in the U.S. (including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico).
To use the $50 off code the new ticket will have to be at least $60 plus tax, and it’s not combinable with the use of trip credits or flight credits. Sadly you’re limited to one $50 discount per AAdvantage member, not per Mastercard that you have.
If you have a Mastercard, there’s no reason not to register in case you wind up booking an American Airlines flight by September 30. You don’t even have to enter the Mastercard’s details in order to register.

@ Gary — Can I earn the discount by booking a ticket with a $0 base fare SFO to LAX?
@Gene. You must spend $60 or more.
@ Liz — Yes, I was referring to last week’s mistake fares of $0 + taxes.
Will you know when you book whether you are one of the first 100,000 and therefore eligible for the $50?
Does this apply to aadvantage mileage flights with Cathay Pacific or Japan airlines?
The $50 off using a MasterCard could be worth less in savings than the discounted prices for AA flights that are available to Amex Platinum and Centurion customers booking AA flight travel on the Amex travel website after logging into the Platinum/Centurion account on the Amex website.
Last month, the discounts Amex was providing for my domestic AA flights was at least around 10%.
I would like to know the answer to Johnny’s question: How to know the 100,000 eligible tkts are still up for grabs. Will MasterCard note this on your account? How does it work?
