Crowd Watches Atlanta Airport Police Body Slam Drunk Passenger Who Refused Arrest

Atlanta airport police “responded to a disturbance call about a white man who was intoxicated, aggressive, and loud.” He was apparently obviously so – and when the man was placed under arrest, he refused to place his hands behind his back. Things went down hill from there.

Police took physical control in a hip toss-style takedown, getting him onto the ground and getting cuffs on him. Numerous comments are speculating over whether a taser was used. There’s a point during the video where the sounds could just be from the crowd, but also could be a tase off camera. The clip ends right after the cuffing. We don’t see anything post‑arrest.

The standard take here is going to be all that matters is non‑compliance – “he should’ve complied” and shouldn’t be resisting arrest. There may be a few of you who want to know, “comply with what though?” unwilling to render judgment without backstory.

If you want to move from the tired/wired formula to inspired, though, note that if you’re going to resist arrest, don’t be wearing sandals. It’s another great reason for men not to be showing toes at the airport or inflight.

  1. This, just 100 short months after a peaceful doctor was removed from his seat on a Chicago flight…

  2. The police like to beat up someone so if arrested, help them restrain you, get the handcuffs on. There is nothing you can say to change their mind. You might be able to convince a judge through a lawyer, though.

  3. @JimC2 — Never forget. Dr. Dao. UA3411. Probably retired thanks to his large undisclosed cash settlement. Cha-ching!

  4. @derek — Even if you do everything by the book, they’ll probably claim ‘resisting arrest’ or ‘assault’ anyway…

  5. What does the fact that the person what white have anything to do with the story? Does that somehow make it better? Worse? I’m confused.

  6. I’m glad all the anti police nonsense is done with and cops can be cops again and don’t have to wait for a perp to shoot at them before dealing with them. Turns out “defunding the police” hurt those that it was supposed to “help” the most.

  7. Walter, cannot wait for you to secede from this union. Want to see how well all the negative verbosity will work out for you then.

  8. @Walter Barry — Most people, especially in communities with crime, support and depend on their local law enforcement for safety—which is good; however, you, like usual, are merely celebrating violence against your perceived cultural and political enemies—that’s wrong.

  9. @Maryland — I’m not in-favor of Balkanization; Lincoln was right, better to keep the union; Hillary was right, too, stronger together. Sadly, there are folks like @Walter Barry who are so driven by hate (or literally funded by the Kremlin to sow division, because, keep in mind, our foreign adversaries could only ever win if we defeat ourselves from within.) So, maintain hope; this too shall pass. As @Parker and I were discussing earlier, the pendulum will swing back.

  10. The pendulum will never swing back without standing up to the waste that allowed this. Not easy, being confrontational and frank with those that have put forward and swallowed the delusions of an aging madman I see as a duty to humanity. Maybe I’m just tired but not ready to give up.

  11. Why do you always refer to men’s feet? Do you like to see women’s feet? I would like people of all genders to cover their feet on the flight and preferably not put them on their tray tables.

  12. Atlanta. Guy gets roughed up by the police. Paging Ben Crump and the entourage. Oh wait a minute. Wrong skin color. Never mind. Seriously though I have no sympathy for those that resist arrest.

  13. @Maryland — Lotta work ahead. Regrettably, we forget the lessons of history, so every so often, we have to repeat them, it seems. I remain grateful that even the worst tyrants still deal with their own mortality (we all do.)

@Gene — Whether it’s you, Tim, or any of us, I’d like to think we’d ‘take the UNKNOWN call’ (from the jail) and come bail each other out…

@Teckelspass — I’m still waiting for occasional commenter @shoeguy for his take on all this footsie action.

@Coffee Please — Mr. Crump should probably take this case, you know, just to ‘subvert expectations’ or whatever.

  14. @derek @1990 my God you live in a fantasy world. The guy takes a fighting stance and was brought to the ground. Wow the injustice! the brutality! the inhumanity! Goodness the police! All they want to do is “beat people up.”!
Sometimes police work is not pretty. It just isn’t. There are bad people in the world and there are people that simply will not comply. Guess what you’re going to jail and you’ll have your day in court. That’s the way the system works. You take a fighting stance all bets are off. Because the police are going to win, I promise you.

  15. There’s just so much that the police should tolerate. “Put your hands behind your back” is simple enough for a first grade student. I’ve watched the police in EU countries that have zero tolerance for this activity. There’s no negotiation…”Put your hands behind your back.” The perp gets one chance and “POW” they’re on the ground, bound and cuffed. This drunk just pushed it so far. Good on the police.

  16. @Dublin — …Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

You suggest others live in a fantasy world, yet you refer to your ‘God’… Good one.

Most of us here fly regularly, so, no, we would hopefully not be the ‘perp’ in any of these rage-bait posts like the story above (altercations in airports or on planes), namely because we simply cannot afford to lose our commercial air passenger privileges… de-escalate, move on, etc.

As for the supporting law enforcement, yeah, most rational people do, for public safety, order, etc. Did you not see my reply to our resident bigot @Walter Barry above? Of course, whenever agents abuse their power, that’s a different matter, and we should be concerned about that, too.

Do you have any other ‘points of order’ you wish to address here? Psh.
