This Emirates A380 is the World’s Largest Flower Pot

The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger plane. Emirates is the world’s largest operator of A380s.

And they offer one of the most luxe products in the sky.

Now Emirates is using an Airbus A380 for something completely different. It’s the world’s largest flower pot.

They’ve built a life-size replica of an A380 at the Dubai Miracle Garden and planted 500,000 fresh flowers in it. The project took 200 people working 10 hours a day 180 days to complete the project. That’s 360,000 work hours. Ultimately there will be 5 million flowers blooming.

Boutros Boutros, Divisional Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing & Brand said: “The Emirates A380 is a statement making aircraft that is tremendously popular with passengers around the world, and we hope that through our collaborative efforts with Dubai Miracle Garden we will inform, inspire and delight visitors through the sheer scale and beauty of the floral A380 installation. Aviation affects all of our lives, and the A380 on showcase will offer visitors the opportunity to get up close to the double-decker. The progressive environmental initiatives and methods of building and planting the Emirates A380 installation are also in harmony with the eco-efficiency of the aircraft.”

I have a special affinity for the name of the Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications because when I was a freshman political science major in college we used to play Boutros Boutros Ghali (the name of the then-Secretary General of the United Nations) instead of Duck Duck Goose.

While the plane won’t fly, the replica has moving engine turbines. Of course it does. Because Dubai.
