National is offering Executive Status in their Emerald Club as a complimentary benefit to American Express Platinum cardmembers. I happen to have the card, but the link alone is sufficient, they didn’t even request the Platinum card number anywhere during the enrollment process which suggests that the offer could likely be used by anyone.
If you’re not already an Emerald Club member the offer provides free signup. And if you are it’ll provide the status upgrade.
Emerald Status members earn a free rental day for every six credits instead of seven, and choose a car from the Executive Selection rather than the standard Emerald Aisle, and when reserving a higher class of car than midsize pay for one car class below what was reserved.
(The Avis Presidents Club offer for Continental Presidential Plus Mastercard holders still appears to allow anyone to sign up, though occasionally Avis has been known to run the Presidents Club list against cardholders and downgrade member status for those without the card.)
Unless it has changed, Amex Plat also confers Hertz Gold and Avis [equivalent]
@Steve K — Hertz Gold can be had free just by Googling, no one pays for Hertz Gold. Amex Plat only gets you the equivalent, which is Preferred, but that’s free anyway! Amex Plat USED TO GET an upgraded level of status, but Avis did away with that level when they launched its equivalent Avis First and Amex Plat no longer confers anything similar.
The upgrade link says “a customer representative will contact you”. Perhaps that is where they ask for a car number. Did anyone contact you, Gary? I do not have the card.
If it is for all, then executive aisle are going to be empty, which is not good.
I applied for Emerald Club Executive via your link. All went well, thanks. However, when I wanted to reserve a car in FRA “no car available”! When I reserved with my “old” Emerald Club or not logging in, I can reserve a car!? It doesn’t really matter to me, I mostly have AVIS and get nice cars in FRA and MUC … BTW, not so in the US.
seems like the link is dead now
A Platinum AmEx will get you discounts at Avis and Hertz that regular sign up does not deliver.
