HURRY: New Zealand for $225 Roundtrip, Lowest Price Ever!

Qantas is selling Los Angeles and San Francisco – Auckland, New Zealand roundtrip for as low as $225. That’s the cheapest I have ever seen a ticket to New Zealand!

This is available for trips that begin July 1 through September 1, and October 28 through November 30.

You can fly either a Qantas codeshare on American’s new Los Angeles – Auckland flight, or you can fly Qantas to Australia and connect across to New Zealand.

American Airlines Boeing 787

Most travel sites have this for $366 roundtrip, and over the summer that price is highly available.

For some reason CheapOAir.com will sell US – New Zealand for $225 roundtrip:

I’d have greater confidence in an Orbitz booking, for the extra $140. Regardless I would wait a few days before making other non-refundable arrangements — I do not have a great deal of experience with Qantas’ super cheap fares, and the chances of their having sellers remorse.

The fare is non-refundable and for all practical purposes is not upgradeable to business class. Qantas flights, and codeshares, that are booked in ‘Q’ class only earn 25% of flown miles when credited to American AAdvantage.

  1. Looks like we may be heading to serious overcapacity on USA/Oceania routes. Famine/feast, as it were. I was in Biz on AA’s LAX/SYD flight recently and while the Premium cabins were about half full you could go bowling in Coach and not hit anyone.

  2. If I book the Qantas flight on AA metal, and I’m AA Platinum, can I put myself in Main Cabin Extra?

  3. Are folks still getting these rates? Viewing the ITA calendar show above (as well as for November) only gives me rates at $893+

  4. Wow – I can’t even get SFO-LAX roundtrip for <$224 for summer.

That's a tremendous fare even for low season (Aust. winter) and shoulder season. Of course, many of us older folks cannot tolerate 14 hours in economy anymore…

  5. What is the website that gave the 30 day view? I am not familiar with any that allow that much of a window anymore. Thanks!

  6. I was able to book this fare this morning. Very excited! $225 round trip, 10 days near the beginning of July. I booked on Travelocity (I felt more comfortable this way instead of using Cheapo Air). I’m flying Qantas. I booked a flight with a six hour layover in Sydney, hoping that might leave me enough time to at least get some photos of the harbor and Opera House.

I credited it to my AA account, understanding that I wouldn’t get 1:1 credit for the miles flown, but I was in a hurry and frankly, didn’t know what else to do. It’s a good thing that I rushed. As soon as I booked my flight, I called my parents. Deal was dead before they could book it.

I think it’s going to end up costing me more to fly from ORD to LAX for the positioning flight, hahaha.

Any advice on itinerary or making the most of miles or points in relation to this flight would be much appreciated. I think I’m finally going to be able to make use of the Prestige 4th night free benefit on this trip!

  7. @Dave, Congrats! I’m a tour guide in NZ, if you want some help with planning an itinerary, look me up (no obligation, happy to help).

  8. Anyone willing to sit through this flight in coach, er economy, will get over the jet lag within 3 weeks. Promise.

I’d rather watch a 3d DVD on NZ . Gary and I are so used to first and business, we would have to carry a giant bottle of valium and a defibrillator.

Say , which would everyone prefer…just asking: Economy flight + a bottle of Louis Xiii Cognac (about $3200) or Business class?

Feel free to insult me. I’m immune . I lost $7,600 this morning.

  9. I was able to grab a pair of tickets for the week before thanksgiving. LAX-BNE-AKL and returning AKL-MEL-LAX. Wondering who to credit to with this lower class?

  10. Anyone else who got in on this deal get a cancelled message just starting today when looking up the flight on QF and AA?
