Since Very Few People Read this Blog on Saturday Evening…

Since tonight it’s just the two of us, I thought I’d give away money.

I’ve got a $100 gift card, and will select a winner at random tomorrow out of those who comment by Noon Eastern on Sunday.

In case you’re looking for something amusing to occupy yourself between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, there is no limit to the number of times you may enter. You can comment as many times you wish, each comment is an entry.

Just chat away, share whatever thoughts you wish. All decisions and rulings made by me are final and unappeallable. By entering you waive any right to sue for or otherwise claim damages. Please don’t give me a hard time when I am trying to give away money or its equivalent. Thank you!

  1. I have never sat in 1st either; business, yes, but I can’t justify the miles to get bumped up to first. That and the airlines I generally fly only have business. Rare that I have the option for first anyway.

  2. @Mike H – Costa Rica is beautiful and fun! Lots of ex-pats there, and many of the people speak English very well. You don’t have to know Spanish, but it’s fun to try, and your 8-year-old might pick it up quickly. There’s modern city life in San Jose, beach resorts, history, jungles, volcanoes, waterfalls, friendly people. Highly recommend.

  3. Thanks for all the info you post. You were one of the first blogs I read when I first started collecting points/miles. I now have enough points to take me, my wife, and my daughter anywhere in the world with our points (albeit in economy, but that isn’t too big of a deal for me since I don’t know what I’m missing).

  4. I once sat in business class on an AirTran flight. Besides that, I’m always in economy. Thinking about changing that for our long trip next summer. But will I actually part with that many miles???

  5. Fair enough greg. that whole city does suck. however I live in la so i cant really say anything about bad airports. but i love the city

  6. Going to Journey concert tonight and trying to win money. Saturdays aren’t what they used to be

  7. thats why im glad im getting into this when im young and no kids. no choice for me, first as much as possible

  8. Apparently there are more people who read your blog on a Saturday than you think!

  9. @ben hogue – Use to work in finance. Now I stay at home with my kids and count miles and points.

  10. Any frequent flier enthusiasts on here also flying in general enthusiasts ? Love listening to the ATC and such before take off.

  11. Ok, so Brazil didn’t beat the spread. Need some dough for the bookie or I’ll end up like Neymar.

  12. cool. like stocks and bonds? I do some finance at work and some counting miles 🙂 id like to stay home with my kids one day

  13. Awesome! I’m here reading your blog this Saturday evening while I am planning my next adventure to Budapest and Amsterdam =)

  14. I married young enough that there have always been two of us at least in the travel game. Traveling solo is a foreign concept for me!

  15. So if I’m on an international flight with two classes of service, they call it coach and business. Is that just to keep me out of the first class lounge??

  16. Speaking of…. now that we have enough points… (110,000 chase UR, 65,000 United miles, 50,000 Barclays arrival, and about 12,000 starwood) can you guys make a few recommendations on where we could go? I’ve always wanted to go somewhere exotic like India, Pakistan, Nepal, or Iceland) my wife is more into beach and spa “travel”. I had thought maybe the Philippines with stopovers somewhere in asia?

  17. Same here Up&Away…it makes being the majority points collector in the household a little more challenging.

  18. hi ben! im going to cancel mine within the 37 day mark and try to get the annual fee back. but i only got one card

  19. Citi Exec deal = 2 x the offer for us. 1 for me, 1 for husband. I don’t do much mf, so I played it safe.

  20. OK, since this is a random comment thread I’ll pose a challenge to the good folks here:

I want to go from NYC-YUL for a long weekend in Aug for a reasonable cost. R/T non-stop tix are $300+ which doesn’t seem worthwhile to me. I have tons of Amex Membership Rewards points plus a good chunk of United MP and a boatload of Southwest RR points.

A friend suggested BA since their distance-based awards are a super deal and I can transfer from Amex to Avios. The problem is that I can’t find any AA availability on BA’s website for JFK-YUL even though AA Saver awards are avail.

Do I just need to call BA and have them search for AA avail manually? Is there a better approach I’m missing here? Thanks for any advice! 🙂

  21. I just got a message that said i was posting comments too quickly and to slow down

  22. I love that you’re giving money away, but I wish I was on a plane going somewhere instead.
