American has announced four changes to its AAdvantage program. All are fairly minor and fall into the ‘good to know’ category that can make award booking easier, cancelling a little more cumbersome, and one redemption more expensive.

American Reveals How They’re Doing Improving Award Availability
The percentage of American Airlines seats occupied by award customers has been lower than that of competitor airlines and had been declining ever since US Airways management took over at the airline. American was been filling about 6% of seats with awards compared to nearly 8% at United and Delta and 13% at Southwest.
AAdvantage President Bridget Blaise-Shamai reported in June that they’re “on a path towards putting our availability much more closer to the competitive levels of like a Delta or a United.”
Report: 60,000 Mile Inflight Offer for AAdvantage Card Ends This Month
At the beginning of the month Barclays increased the offer on its AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard to 60,000 bonus miles after first purchase in the first 90 days and paying the card’s $95 annual fee (the fee on this card is not waived the first year).
These are the cards flight attendants advertise onboard American. ComputerPlayerOne says flight attendants have been told this offer will last through August 31.
American Briefly Showed Award Space Online For Four New Partners, But They’ve Pulled It
Last night American Airlines started showing some award space online for Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar, and SriLankan. That’s been pulled and is no longer available.
Court: Some Members Can Now Sell Their American AAdvantage Miles
A Brazilian court heard an appeal in a case where a member sold miles, American Airlines caught it, and they voided the tickets. The appeals court is requiring American to pay the cost of replacement tickets plus damages.
