American Will Pay $45 Million to Settle Claim They Illegally Colluded With Other Airlines
Three years ago the Department of Justice announced that they were investigating the US airlines for unlawful collusion to limit capacity and increase airfares.
DOJ walking away from its case didn’t end matters. There’s still a private lawsuit. It argues that the major US airlines colluded to restrict capacity through their public statements calling for capacity discipline.
675 American Airlines Regional Flights Cancelled, Here’s What American is Telling Employees
This has gotten some coverage but since it’s an outage at regional carrier PSA — a wholly owned subsidiary that operates as American Eagle — rather than at mainline American it’s relatively undercovered considering the magnitude of travel disruption.
PSA operates over 100 Bombardier CRJ regional jets. Their largest operation centers around American’s Charlotte hub.
Award Alert: 4 or More Business Class Award Seats to Asia From Several US Cities
I frequently highlight awards bookable with American AAdvantge miles in premium cabins because they tend to make fewer seats available than many other airlines on their own planes and because they have fewer partners through the oneworld alliance than United does through Star.
As a result it’s worth jumping when there are plenty of award seats available on long haul routes. That’s doubly true when you’re looking for more than two seats, because finding availability for four is exponentially harder much of the time and to many destinations.
New Aggressive Pitch for Onboard Credit Card Signup — ‘Get Both’ for Big Bonuses
I was surprised flying American Airlines this week that the onboard credit card pitch for the Barclays AAdvantage® AviatorTM Red World Elite Mastercard® included the flight attendant noting that this is ‘a new card introduced in 2017 (sic) and that if you already have the American Airlines card issued by Citi you can get this one too.’
Explicitly mentioning a competitor product seems to be a new part of the script since I’ve seen several references to this from other flyers on Facebook as well.

3 Notable Experiences Flying American Airlines on Monday
American’s food service in its clubs has really been boosted, and perceptions of their club experience should be upgraded as a result. Onboard I got a predeparture beverage, and that’s actually notable. And I tried a special meal at breakfast for the first time, unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the passport to a great inflight meal the way it is at lunch and dinner.
REPORT: American Considering Non-Stop Service to Dubrovnik
American Airlines is reportedly looking at seasonal Philadelphia – Dubrovnik service.
Authorities in Dubvrovnik have been looking for twice weekly year-round service from New York. There’s a large Croatian population in New York, and an even bigger one in Pittsburgh.

Daily Show Mocks American Airlines New Miserable Lavatories
American’s new Boeing 737 MAX interior has seats with less space between them than ever before, less recline, and no seat back entertainment. They are installing satellite wifi and bigger overhead bins, but to squeeze in even more seats — they’ve gone from 150 seats to 172 seats on this size aircraft in just four years — they’re shrinking the bathrooms onboard.
One American Airlines pilot describes these lavatories as the most miserable experience in the world. He says he’ll refuse to deadhead on the aircraft to get to his duty assignment.
