A Delta Air Lines first class passenger took a different approach to being denied their pre-takeoff cocktail.
The Delta flight to New York JFK was hit between two taxiways as the Aeromexico plane’s wing tip impacted Delta’s horizontal stabilizer. The two aircraft returned to their gates, with both aircraft taken out of service.
Now, the idea that Starbucks somehow signals quality is strange. And the brand alone doesn’t matter most, when United served Starbucks it was a special light brew because too many passengers were overwhelmed by deeper flavors. They worked to serve the lowest common denominator taste. But any issue you may have with Delta now serving Starbucks should really be about would you like a cup of it on board?
According to Delta President Glen Hauenstein, cancellation rates vary far more than they did before the pandemic so Delta plans to increase overbooking and ‘see what happens’ – because without change fees on most fares, people are changing plans more at the last minute. This could result in more passengers denied boarding.
Before the pandemic, when Norwegian was operating the route, Delta planned to fly to Gatwick using a Boeing 757 without Delta Suites. It was totally obvious what they were doing, with a product well-matched to Norwegian’s.
This was supposed to start in May 2020, but didn’t happen because of the pandemic – and because Norwegian ceased its transatlantic flying. Now that JetBlue offers a real business class on the route, Delta has upgraded to a Boeing 767.

A Delta Air Lines passenger reported that they made it to Detroit on Friday, but couldn’t get the last mile home to Cincinnati. There were strong thunderstorms in the area in the evening and that was wreaking havoc with flights. Delta, though, didn’t blame weather and say there was nothing they can do. Instead they rebooked passengers on short-distance final segments using their partner Lyft.
In recent years, Delta has offered the worst customer service by phone with the longest hold times for customers, although of course all airlines have challenges. Fortunately there is a workaround for all of this!
Delta flight 1482 from New Orleans to Salt Lake City was cancelled Friday evening after being told to reject takeoff when another aircraft crossed the taxiway. The Delta Airbus A321 was already accelerating down the runway for its takeoff roll.
A passenger on board Delta Air Lines flight 1714 from Los Angeles to Seattle popped the emergency exit slide and headed down onto the tarmac on Saturday morning, Steven Slater-style. The man was detained by airline staff, and then arrested when law enforcement arrived.
A Delta source shared video of the passenger actually popping the slide and running, and I haven’t seen this anywhere else.
