United Airlines flight 1001 from Los Angeles to Denver lost a tire during takeoff this morning at around 7:15 a.m. Pacific time. Flight attendants ran everyone through brace procedures, prior to making an emergency landing.
Flight attendants working for US-based airlines are required to be trained in CPR and in use of the automatic external defibrillator. The FAA requires simulated AED practice scenarios. And flight attendants are trained to do this even if no onboard medical personnel are available.
Venezuelan regional carrier Laser Airlines evacuated a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 from Maracaibo after landing in Caracas on Sunday. Smoke flooded the cabin after the former American Airlines plane’s auxiliary power unit failed, and slides were deployed. All 91 people on board were evacuated.
A passenger reported that their American Airlines flight made an emergency landing on Sunday “after a potential brake failure.” Everyone had to assume the crash position. German airline Condor was flying from Frankfurt to Cancun on February 6th when the Airbus A330 declared an emergency about 880 nautical miles west of Shannon, Ireland.
