Will Hyatt’s New Multi-Brand Las Vegas Complex Jeopardize Its MGM Partnership?

Mar 19 2021

The old Rio Las Vegas will become several Hyatt-branded properties with Hyatt Regency the first to come online, expected in 2023. Full service Hyatts in Las Vegas will be something new, but Hyatt isn’t telling us what other brands they’ll have yet and none of this will happen for several years. So that’s only of limited interest today.

What’s more intriguing I think is what this means for Hyatt’s MGM M life Rewards partnership.

Boycott Hyatt Movement Growing As Chain Hosts CPAC Conference

Feb 25 2021

Hotels host meetings and events, and generally do not carefully vet the messages that will be shared or the people who will gather at those meetings to make sure they’re consistent with the values of their median customer, consistent with the values of their most vocal customers, or consistent with the values of twitter.

From time to time that becomes a problem, and seemingly becomes a problem for Hyatt (and, oddly, for the Hyatt Regency Orlando) relatively often.

Hyatt Regency Boston No Longer Wants To Be A Hub For Prostitution

Feb 25 2021

The Hyatt Regency Boston has apparently become notorious as a hub for prostitution with “at least 70 incidents involving sex for pay at the hotel over the past six months” according to the Boston police department in a licensing hearing.

In order to minimize future incidents they’ve hired the security director away from the Sheraton Boston and added a second night guard to their staff.

Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country Tried To Pull A Fast One On Hyatt And Program Members

Feb 22 2021

The Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country has been playing games with free room night award availability. Most of the time you’ve been able to use Hyatt points for free nights there. However there’s a trick they’ve been using at peak times, like Memorial Day Weekend, to stop people from redeeming. They’ve been pulling a fast one on program members – and Hyatt. Fortunately after I pinged someone at Hyatt, they cracked down in less than 24 hours.

When It Matters, Testing For Travel Is Easy. So Why Won’t Airlines Test Their Own Crew?

Jan 26 2021

Travel brands are offering Covid-19 testing in order to adapt to the current reality, born out of desperation to win business from Americans in the face of new travel requirements. And it’s a reason crew exemptions are concerning – airlines should be able to adapt too.

In fact I’m told that United Airlines is scheduling U.K.-based crew to work London – Newark – Mumbai – Newark – London, London – Chicago – Delhi – Chicago – London, and London – Washington DC – London. This is roughly 80 UK-based crew entering the US every day exempt from the CDC’s new testing requirement, with the UK one of the epicenters of a new SARS-CoV-2 mutation of concern.

Jan 13 2021

Service Properties Trust, which owns 329 hotels across numerous brands, has had disputes with IHG and Marriott and is transitioning those properties to Sonesta Hotels where it’s a one-third owner. Hotel chains often guarantee minimum revenue to property owners, and Service Properties Trust had a dispute over those payments.

Hyatt hasn’t refused to make payment, but has reached its full $50 million guarantee on the 22 hotels under its Hyatt Place brand owned by the company. That gives Hyatt the right to terminate its agreement with 90 days’ notice. Hyatt sent this notice of termination which is effective April 8, 2021.

Two hotel guests BASE jumped off the 25th floor rooftop bar at the Grand Hyatt Nashville on Friday evening as other patrons caught the scene on video.

The jumpers parachuted “across the road and landed in an adjacent parking lot.” They then got into a car that was parked in the lot and headed off. They’re now banned from the hotel, and remain at -large according to a police report.

LAST CHANCE: Hyatt Visa Double The Elite Nights For New Cardmembers Ending

Park Hyatt New York Proves Why Hotel Loyalty Makes Sense
Dec 27 2020

World Of Hyatt Credit Card cardmembers normally receive 5 elite nights every year (and earn 2 more elite nights for every $5000 they spend on the card). However Hyatt tells me that new cardmembers who are approved by December 31, 2020 will receive (10) elite nights both for 2020 and for 2021. That’s double the number of elite nights, twice.

And there’s a new card offer that gives you a choice of initial bonus.
