Traditionally ‘premium’ domestic markets have been limited to New York – Los Angeles and San Francisco because they’re premium revenue markets and East Coast – Hawaii because though it’s primarily leisure it’s a longer flight than Europe. That means at a minimum lie flat seats up front.

There’s increasing competition offering a premium product on other routes from United, Delta, and JetBlue.

It’s a tough industry to stand alone in, and pressure from financial analysts is fierce. Alaska, completing its merger with Virgin America, now says they’re considering Basic Economy too.

Now jetBlue is looking at Basic Economy, too. As reported by Airline Weekly they revealed in a presentation at a Barclays event in Miami.

Passenger Couldn’t Face Flying United, Pops Slide and Flees During Boarding at Newark

A passenger onboard United’s flight UA1640 from Newark to Tampa popped the emergency slide and went down and off the aircraft last night while they were still at the gate.

25-year-old Troy Fattun went to the back of the plane while boarding was still underway, opened the exit door, and went for it.

jetBlue Passenger Hits Flight Attendant, Breaks Out of Handcuffs Twice and Goes on Epic Rant

A passenger on a jetBlue flight Tuesday night from Los Angeles to New York JFK began yelling at a flight attendant while the aircraft was taxiing out prior to takeoff. He then “punched the flight attendant in the head.”

Crew members come to the assistance of the flight attendant who was punched. Flight attendants get restraints from the overhead bin. But this man wasn’t going to be restrained.

JetBlue is Giving Away 500 Free Tickets on Friday

Tomorrow is their fifth anniversary and they’re giving away 500 roundtrip tickets to the first one hundred people who show up at each of their five New York City borough locations dressed as one of the destinations they fly to (along with a canned food item for City Harvest).
