While many airlines walk away from true first class, some – like Air France, Cathay Pacific, and Singapore Airlines – lean into it. The same is true for Emirates. The market for spending far more than business class isn’t a large one, but it’s lucrative.
Lufthansa has business class tickets starting at $1,062 roundtrip, which is about 75% off usual prices. This deal will not be around for long – probably not even hours.

Other airlines will offer tarmac transfers from the lounge to the plane and back. Air France does this for La Premiere at Paris Charles de Gaulle. Lufthansa is putting the superjumbo Airbus A380 onto the Denver – Munich route April 30 through September 30th. The plane will also operate from Munich to New York, Boston, Washington, Los Angeles and Delhi.
That’s a lot of airplane with a lot of seats to fill, and award space especially on the Denver route is wide open using miles from partner frequent flyer programs.

The Department of Transportation and Lufthansa have entered a consent order addressing the airline’s discrimination based on religion, impacting 128 Jewish passengers on May 4, 2022 who were traveling from New York JFK to Budapest via Frankfurt and who were denied boarding on their connecting flight due to the misconduct of some passengers on the first leg of the journey.
Lufthansa’s ground staff union will strike Wednesday and Thursday. The airline estimates that they will only be able to operate 10% – 20% of flights on Wednesday, and has not provided an estimate for Thursday.
