A woman driving a vehicle in front of New York JFK’s terminal 5, home to JetBlue, wasn’t following traffic instructions. The security officer directing traffic was having none of that, and beat the hood of her car. The driver, though, wasn’t going to take that lightly. She got out of the vehicle, went to her trunk, and pulled out… a bat. The two proceeded to tussle, and a second person in a bright security vest came over to assist. But it was a bystander who intervened to shut things down, grabbing the bat and helping to subdue the driver.
And all I can think is, well, just another day at New York JFK?
Delta has a new option to entice people not to take up space in their New York JFK lounge: a grab and go where you can get food and drink, but this requires a ticket that you get by agreeing to forego use of the lounge.
The old Flagship First Dining space is now part of the Greenwich lounge, re-opened as the Tasting Room to take advantage of the bar there.
Earlier today there was a small fire at New York JFK’s terminal 1 which caused an electrical panel to fail. It closed down the terminal. Many flights diverted, while Air New Zealand flight 2 non-stop from Auckland made a 16 hour flight to nowhere – while the pilots argued with the company to press on.
New York JFK’s terminal 1 appears to have caught fire and this is impacting operations somewhat.
On January 13, an American Airlines Boeing 777 headed to London taxied on the wrong runway as a Delta 737 began its take off roll. This was nearly a disaster of epic proportions, as the American jet crossed right in front of Delta, and the Delta plane hit the brakes.
The Delta flight stopped less than 1000 feet from where it would have intersected with American’s plane. The transatlantic 777 didn’t follow air traffic control instructions. It nearly caused a disaster. And now the Allied Pilots Association is running interference in the media.
The American plane, a 22 year old Boeing 777-200 (registration N754AN) crossed in front of the Delta jet that was in its takeoff roll. Air traffic control saw this happening and at almost the last possible moment called out to Delta to abort takeoff, out of fear the two planes would collide (“Shit! Delta 1943 cancel takeoff clearance!”).
We know a little bit more than was immediately available when this incident was first disclosed.
The Greenwich Lounge has taken the old Flagship Lounge space, American’s business class lounge, and rebranded it. In fact very little has been done to that lounge. They’ve merely repurposed it, existing furniture and all. Buffet is the same as in the Soho lounge.
American Airlines has (4) levels of lounge at New York JFK, and it gets confusing for passengers. Part of it is that the lounge names don’t describe who has access, part of it is that the lounges are brand new, with three of them shared with British Airways now that BA has moved into the terminal.
