Back in June I stayed at the Westin Stonebriar for the first time and I received an amazing upgrade while they seemed to confuse me with someone else, an important repeat customer.

I had the Chairman’s Suite:

I’ve returned to the property twice since then, so I thought it would be interesting to compare things when I’m no longer confused with someone else. Two things worked in my favor, however:

• That first stay made me more memorable, there are staff that recognize me as a result
  
• It’s low season (and the place is super cheap) over the summer.

While I never saw the Chairman’s Suite again I did continue to get great Platinum upgrades… without requesting them in advance via Suite Night Awards.

Presidential Suite

On my second stay I got what I took to be an unspoken apology for thinking I was someone else that had stayed on property frequently. I didn’t get the Chairman’s Suite (the hotel’s biggest) again but on my next visit they gave me the Presidential Suite which – while not as ginormous – in some ways I actually preferred.

There was a guest bath in the entryway and a dining table that was much smaller than the one in the separate formal dining room in the Chairman’s Suite.

The dining room table, desk area, and couch were all part of a single large living space.

The bedroom was standard size, with a separate closet and dressing area from the bathroom.

Oddly, though there were the usual Westin toileteries in the room, the shower also had wall mounted dispensers.

While there was no separate kitchen this time, there was still a refrigerator.

The room overlooked the pool.

A Normal Platinum Suite Upgrade

On my third stay I genuinely started wondering, “what suite will I get this time?” The hotel does treat Platinums well, though certainly not as well as I had lucked into on my two previous stays.

I checked the Starwood app on my phone on the way to the hotel and saw that I was assigned room ‘5043’. That sounded familiar — the Chairmans suite was 2043. I knew though this meant I had neither the Chairmans Suite nor the Presidential Suite. But I had a room on the hotel’s top floor.

The check-in desk handed me keys, no welcome back this time, just a fairly standard check-in transaction. And I walked up to the room to see a sign by the room number that said ‘Executive Suite’.

So I’d finally see what a regular suite looked like at the property. Believe it or not I was happy about that.

The bedroom was fairly standard for a Westin.

The master bath, though, was quite large with separate shower and tub (though only one sink, and no separate toilet room)

The room had a view over the golf course, which was nice.

It was basically two hotel rooms in size, with more modern furnishings than the higher-end suites and an oversized bath. I was more than happy with the upgrade and much appreciate that the hotel goes out of its way to upgrade platinums, at least during low season which was when my stays have fallen.
