  1. Does Hyatt have any rules/standards about how much of a hotel’s calendar is to be off-peak vs. standard vs. peak?

I took a look at the rate calendar for Ventana Big Sur and tallied up the # nights of off-peak vs. standard vs. peak over the coming months.

Here’s the breakdown for a standard room over the next 358 nights (from 2/8/23 through 1/31/24)…

    Off-peak (35K/night) = 18 nights (5%)
    Standard (40K/night) = 52 nights (15%)
    Peak (45K/night) = 288 nights (80%)

Seems more than a little misleading to call 40K/night “standard” when 4 out of 5 nights are in fact priced at the peak rate.

  2. Women desiring to snag a business traveler husband at the airport (Starbucks) in 2023 have the perspicacity to purchase an American Express Platinum Card in 2022, so they could squander $75,000 on the card. By doing this, they benefit from complimentary guest access for up to two (potential husbands) or guests per visit to the AMEX Centurion lounge. Membership has its privileges.

The Centurion® Network has 40+ locations worldwide, including Centurion Lounges and Escape Lounges – The Centurion® Studio Partner. Readers of VFTW should be aware that access policies may vary from country to country in international locations.

  3. Why would anyone want to catch a pudgy middle aged man, with way too much carryon in tow who has to go to work on Sunday?

  4. Last time I drove through Big Sur it was one motor home after another going 25 mpg and nowhere to pass safely. Also, a mudslide may have blocked Highway 1 south from Alila. YMMV
