$200 SniqueAway Hotel Credit Giveaway

SniqueAway is a new-ish site for discount hotel bookings. I don’t even know how long it’s been around, I’ve been vaguely aware of it for months but never took a closer look. I got an email from one of their PR folks wondering if I’d try it out if they gave me a $200 credit to use. Well, I haven’t done that, and I suggested we do a giveaway of a $200 credit here.

If you sign up using my referral link I’ll get a $25 credit should you wind up also making a booking through the site. I’m giving away the $200 credit offered, but I’d just assume that someone wind up with the referral credits. I’ll bear no malice if you use someone else’s referral link, I’d just hate to see the $25 go to waste and not wind up with anyone.

My basic takeaway on the site is that it’s one for the arsenal. It’s useful. They do limited-time sales on a limited selection of properties. They have some good prices, and I like that there are some more upscale properties than many of the discounters usually focus on. But the limited offerings mean that more often than not they won’t suit my needs.

The deals don’t strike me as generally good enough to spark incremental trips on their own. Good deals, not so great as to make a trip that I otherwise wouldn’t do, so a site I’d love to use when there are hotels that match my plans which there haven’t been yet.

Put a different way, it’s a site I will check but it’s a long shot that the place I need to stay will happen to be what they’re offering on the given day I go to book it. When there’s a match I’ll be glad for it, but likely there won’t usually be a match.

Right now they’ve got a Kimpton property in Manhattan for $199+tax per night. That’s a good savings, you take better than a third off the price or thereabouts and get to (1) pick your property and (2) get a nice property out of the deal. There are only a handful of days available in October and a couple in November and December at that price, though they have some nights at $225 as well. The offer is running for a week.

There are also hotels in Toronto, Mexico City, West Hollywood, San Diego, Spokane, and a handful of others including a few international properties as well.

So here’s what we’re going to do.

  • You need to be registered with SniqueAway, of course, since the prize is a $200 credit for use on the site.

  • And then leave a comment here on this post: what destination that they’re currently offering would you most want to use your credit at?

Only one entry per person, yes I will check, and the contest will run through Monday, October 10 at 12:00pm Eastern. I’ll draw the winner at random using Random.org’s number generator, then match it up to make sure that the entry is valid.

Meanwhile, also worth noting that through October 7 they’re running a sweepstakes to give away $500 in credit for use on hotels through the site and also a $500 credit with wine site Lot18.com. The wine credit is equally appealing to me…

  1. Nemacolin Woodlands – I’ve heard great things and I really want to play their golf course!

  2. I actually used them for a Cheeca Lodge booking last time it was on and saved about $700 over the cost of booking directly with the resort, so it’s definitely worth it if they have something nice on sale.

Same thing for the IC Tampa, which generally goes on sale for under $100 a night.

  3. Definitely Arenas del Mar or Lapa Rios in Costa Rica 🙂 I’ve wanted to go to CR for quite a while now!

  4. Pavillions Thailand for me since we’re going to be in Phuket or Krabi over thanksgiving!

  5. The beautiful historic Oxford hotel in Denver! That is where my husband and I stayed when we got married and we would love to go back to celebrate our anniversary and visit my family in Colorado.

  6. I would like to use it at the DuPont in DC. I have actually used Sniqueaway before. We got a deal last year in december at the Stowe Mountain Lodge. It turned out to be a great resort and it was much cheaper than I could find anywhere else, including directly from the resort. I booked the trip after finding that deal. Also, I like the resort so much that I will probably find a way to go back (but hopefully through another Sniqueaway deal). The normal rates are expensive.

  7. I’d honestly just party all night at the Chamberlain West Hollywood. I’m poor and I need a night off.

  8. I’ve always wanted to try the Kimpton brand & what better place than NYC!

    Thanks for the offer Gleff!

  9. Nemacolin Woodlands – I don’t live too far from there, but it has always been so out of my price range to stay there. I’ve heard great things about it though !!

  10. Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands is very nice. Half off rack rate is almost sane, although the restaurant prices are sky-high, so I’d have to bring bags of groceries. Think of it as getting the sailboat experience without the sailboat challenges.

  11. I’ve got an upcoming trip to Denver, so that’s the hotel I’d pick from today’s deals.

  12. I’d use it at the Eventi New York – I know it opened not too long ago, and I read a little bit of hype about it at HotelChatter. It seems to get away from the traditional Kimpton aesthetic (which never appealed to me) and goes towards more of a modern luxury theme.

  13. I have used SniqueAway before for a Kimpton property in Chicago, and I would use it again to book an escape to las villas akumal.

  14. I would use it in costa rica…i proposed to my wife on a surprise trip to the cloud forest there and we were only there for a weekend trip so didn’t have time to check out the beach region…would love to go back on our anniversary and stay at the arenas del mar!

  15. The Kimpton property in Chelsea in NYC would be great. (or as of Monday, the Ventana Inn at Big Sur!)

  16. I would definitely use it for the Kahala Resort in Hawaii. Currently planning a wedding and honeymoon for next year, so would love this to help offset other wedding costs!

  17. Paradise point San Diego. I stayed there before.
Thailand and Chicago are my other options.

  18. I would use the Layfatte hotel in California–beautiful hotel and relatives nearby to visit!

  19. I would use it at the Chamberlain Hotel in West Hollywood for an upcoming trip in November. I personally am a fan of SniqueAway and think they have some great rates!

  20. I’ve been following sniqueaway since they launched and I’ve seen many a deal in Latin America that I’d love to take advantage of! A $200 kickstart would sure help!

    🙂

  21. Another nice contest, Gary. Thanks! Registered using your link, hopefully a useful offer will come up.

  22. Would take my wife for a weekend getaway to NEMACOLIN WOODLANDS RESORT – FARMINGTON, PA

  23. I’m torn. I’d most like to visit Arenas Del Mar in Costa Rica but they also have Hotel Veritas in Cambridge, MA which would allow me to catch up with my brother. Ah, the heck with him – I’d go to Costa Rica 😉

  24. Next month we will be flying back from Tokyo into Chicago and so I will pick the Allerton in Chicago.

  25. Right now, I’m eyeing the Le Saint-Sulpice in Montreal. Sounds great, and I’ve been wanting to check out Montreal for a while.

  26. Ive always wanted to visit the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica:

Lapa Rios Ecolodge – Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

  27. Gary–Signed up using your referral link to Snique Away.

The Kahala Resort in Hawaii looks nice!

  28. Although I loved Cancun when I was there, there is NO DOUBT that my choice would be Phuket, Thailand!

  29. I second recent poster Leo, I’d find the best deal I could in NYC. To get a high-end hotel there for 50% or so off would be wonderful.

  30. It would be fantastic to take a trip to India with the Sniqueaway $200 credit. Great blog Gary, really deep thoughtful stuff, keep it up. Cheers.

  31. I’m thinking Eventi in NYC. The wife and I are due for another NYC trip (away from the kids)!

  32. I would absolutely love to go to West Hollywood, CA, but all of the locations look fantastic.

  33. I’d be so happy to win this and use it for a couple nights at Ventanna Inn in Big Sur

  34. i’m not sure. perhaps to support one of my required residencies for grad school … but if syracuse ny isn’t sufficiently exotic then the eventi in ny sounds like a good catch!

  35. I would want to use the credit towards the FIESTA AMERICANA GRAND CHAPULTEPEC HOTEL in Mexico City.

  36. New York would be my first choice assuming it’s valid for 2012. West Hollywood is also tempting though the electric car discount is nonsense.

  37. I would like to use the credit at the Abiquiu Inn, New Mexico. I have always wanted to visit New Mexico.

  38. I would choose the Loden in Vancouver. I got engaged there and would love to go back for a second romantic vacation!

  39. Having just been to NYC for the first time, I know downtown hotels are expensive. It would be nice to use SniqueAway for the Kimpton Hotel – New York, NY.

  40. I would use my $200 credit to go to “A hideaway on a secluded beach
Hawaii” at The Kahala hotel & Resort in Honolulu, Hawaii. I’ve never been there so it would be a trip of a lifetime for me :@)

  41. Do you know if any of the brands sold through Snique-away credit points? I couldn’t find anything on their website, which means probably not.
