New Stackable Aeroplan Bonus for Starwood Hotel Nights

Starwood is offering up to 9000 bonus Air Canada Aeroplan miles (Registration required).

Stay five qualifying nights at Starwood hotels and resorts around the world from September 1 – December 15, 2013 and earn 5,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles. Stay a seventh night and enjoy 2,000 more Bonus Aeroplan Miles. Stay a ninth night and earn 2,000 more, up to a maximum of 9,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles during the promotion. Nights can accrue across multiple stays.

Last month I called Aeroplan the most devalued airline frequent flyer program in North America. So if the promotion required giving up Starpoint accrual, I likely would not be highlighting it.

But it doesn’t. And this promotion should even be stackable with the Starwood’s “Take Two” promotion offering double points plus 2500 bonus points for every 5 eligible nights (up to 10,000 points) between September 1 and December 15.

From the terms and conditions of the Aeroplan offer:

Any Bonus Aeroplan Miles earned with this promotion is in addition to regular and any bonus Starwood Preferred Guest Starpoints® earnings.

Since this stacks, it’s worth registering if you have any upcoming Starwood stays (or even might possibly wind up with some you aren’t otherwise expecting).

  1. I have never been a member of the Aeroplan program but if it is a pure add-on I am debating whether it is worth it to open an account. Agreed free is always good but with 9K miles will I be able to get any value out of it. I don’t anticipate collecting more miles in this program.

  2. @unclesam,

Aeroplan is a membership rewards transfer partner, so picking these up could be useful if you have membership rewards points even if you do not otherwise accumulate points in their program.

  3. Thanks Scott. I do have membership rewards points but is there anything of value in their award chart. I don’t know much about their program and all I read is horror stories and not interested in paying fuel surcharges either. Can the points be transferred out of the program even if it is at a terrible value. It may help in recovering some value out of nothing.

  4. @unclesam,

My wife and I went to London and Paris earlier this year using Aeroplan miles transferred from MR points, flying United business and Lufthansa business for the intra-European leg. It was 90K miles and $275 in taxes/fees per person. Adding 9K Aeroplan miles through this would be a nice little bonus toward a similar redemption again.

Maybe there are other options, but it doesn’t hurt to have some added flexibility. The 9K MR points you can save can make up some for the fees.

  5. @Scott C

Thanks. That does not sound bad at all. I have never looked into the Aeroplan program before but this has convinced me to signup.
