Hyatt Regency Coral Gables Revisited, and Still Pretty Good for What it Is

I reviewed the hotel just last month but thought I’d mention it again because I had such a similar experience that I can say that it’s a good property for its purpose and for the money, and my earlier experience was not a fluke.

The hotel is perfect for near the airport, I arrived in Miami around 10pm and didn’t want to make a lengthy drive until the morning. So I’ve used it twice now for one-night stays and it’s suited me perfectly. (It’s not an airport hotel per se and has no airport shuttle, but since I’m picking up a rental car and it’s close it works well.)

Elite recognition it good, both stays I’ve been assigned a junior suite without using any sort of confirmed suite upgrade instrument.

There was a semi-separated bedroom and living area.

The room had a small balcony off the living space (though without the same nice view as last time out over Miami, this time it was of buildingtops).

The bathroom was small, like that of a standard room, and I learned an important lesson in it.

You know those anti-slip mats that hotels give you to lay down in the tub before taking a shower? I’ve never used one in my life. And I’ve never slipped. Until this stay. I turned on the water, got in, and somehow managed to slip. Out of the tub. Backwards. Breaking my fall with my lower back against the toilet seat. As I lay on the floor feeling stupid, I realized I should at least pay attention — those mats are a sign and reminder to be careful, even if I don’t always feel like they’re clean and don’t want to step on them. A few Advil later I was fine, and within two days it was no longer noticeable. And now you know just how fallable I am sometimes in my travels!

The room rates have been reasonable when I’ve stayed, both midweek and on a Friday evening, around $129. And they offer Diamond breakfast either in the restaurant or via room service – something I wish more hotels would do. The orange french toast is quite good, something recommended by commenter Denny Rhodes and I wholeheartedly agree.

  1. We live in SRQ and make frequent trips to MIA. This hotel is a gem in the middle of the Gables. It’s very peaceful; the pool area is calm, and the workout room is tranquil. Well-insulated, nicely appointed rooms with thick carpeting. And right around the corner–literally–are a handful or great places to eat.

For the (reasonable amount) money spent, this hotel is one of our favorites.

  2. I must check it out. Thanks for the pics and story. Good story (and I’m so sorry for your “slip” 🙁 You may have saved another person’s life with that tip though).

I really like that the Diamond breakfast is honored in the “restaurant” (not just lounge) OR room service. More Hyatt properties should follow suit..
