Lots of Miles and Points Deadlines This Week: Act Now

US Airways Dividend Miles

US Airways’ last day in Star Alliance will be Sunday, March 30 and first day in oneworld Monday, March 31.

Here’s some information on how award tickets will work with the oneworld transition and also here. And here’s my guide to booking awards with US Airways miles.

If you want to fly to Europe, especially without fuel surcharges, act now (though bear in mind that any changes made after Monday won’t be able to include Star Alliance airlines). Star availability to Europe is much better than with oneworld, and the largest carrier over the Pond British Airways incurs fuel surcharges.

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards

Meanwhile, be sure to book any Southwest awards by Monday as well before Rapid Rewards reduces the value of its points when redeeming for the cheapest (“Wanna Get Away”) fares. With Southwest’s generous cancellation policy (no fees), you might as well burn all your points now even speculatively in case you need them in order to get the most value.

Hyatt Gold Passport

If you’ve been strategically waiting to register for Hyatt’s Possibilities promotion – to wait and see whether earning points or free nights would make more sense based on your planned travel through April 30 – remember that March 31 is the last day you can register.

  1. “Star availability to Europe is much better than with oneworld”

Is that true for DESIRABLE biz class? I know Brussels is good, while LH old C is terrible. What other *A choices come close to AA 773 (which you say is the best product to EU)?

  2. @italdesign – Well Lufthansa is finally reconfiguring the old biz. Scandinavian is pretty bad. But then American’s business is still mostly angled, which will change over the next 21 months. But Austrian business is pretty good. United business is a good seat (if you avoid legacy United 8-across 777s). Swiss is good but availability isn’t.
