Take Your Whole Family to Paris on Points – First Class Awards Wide Open on American!

First class is going away on American’s Dallas – Paris flight. But from late summer until that happens they’ve opened the floodgates on first class awards.

American is going to be removing first class on plenty of routes, as they reconfigure their Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 767 aircraft to new business class (and remove first class from the 777-200s). First class cabins will remain only on the 777-300ER aircraft which fly to destinations like London and Hong Kong.

Starting around August 21, American has released tons of first class award availability on its Dallas – Paris flights. That’s 125,000 miles roundtrip per person, and no fuel surcharges (since it’s on American metal).

Here’s a calendar of availability for two passengers in first class, August 28 through September 26:

Although some dates have only a single seat available, often it isn’t just two seats. American can show up to seven seats at a time, and a random search for availability (“Z” is first class award space) shows 7 seats on several dates using Expertflyer:

Availability runs through October 24. October 25 the flight starts to be operated by a 767 (old business class):

I came across good first class availability on this route on my own, but didn’t catch the broader pattern (just how many seats, and that it would go away) until that was flagged at TravelingBetter, pointing to a thread on Flyertalk.

  1. Why are you linking to a guy who ripped it off FlyerTalk?

Just lifting it off Flyertalk isn’t enough now?

  2. Score!

    Thanks Gary —

I just changed a LAX-ORD-LHR-CDG in F to LAX-DFW-CDG. So happy to avoid Heathrow.

  3. @FT_Rip – it’s because Gary didn’t find it at FT. Internet etiquette is to give a hat tip (ht) to the source you found something and, if necessary, their original source (FT, in this case). I’m sure if Gary had found the FT thread first, he would’ve pointed directly there.

  4. @Gary

What are the aircraft plans for this route next summer, any idea when they will switch away from the 763? I am planning a trip next year and would like to avoid LHR if possible. Will this route eventually be serviced by the new 772?

  5. Thanks, indeed it’s available … but for a family of 4, AA is requiring 700K miles plus $20.00 one-way SNA-CDG on 7/23. An incredible amount of miles valued at around $25K if you book round trip around. You can spend around the same amount if you bought the tickets outright but you will earn miles.

@FT_Rip, what difference does it make where he got it from, so long as he brought it to our attention!

  6. Interesting results and not a horrible miles cost for a “Z” seat. That said, do you really want to fly that route on American’s metal? I think they have already cut the catering back to BC standards and they are buying much cheaper liquor. They are turning a profit again and they apparently want to keep all of it.

  7. I’m new to all this. Does AA allow a stopover in Europe, say for around two weeks for a Hong Kong destination? Thank you for any help.

    Kate

  8. Thanks Gary. I snagged 2 over Labor Day. I have done AA F before on LAX-PVG. Good enough hard product. Soft product was alright. It sure beats coach (and biz on AF).

  9. Hello There. I found your weblog the use of msn. This is a really smartly
