News and notes from around the interweb:
- Virgin Atlantic is offering roundtrip economy awards between London and Boston, New York JFK, Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, and Miami for just 25,000 miles and £249 taxes.
- Tourists shattered the statute of two Hercules in Cremona, Italy while trying to take a selfie. That’s worse, even than tourists arrested for taking photos inside Cambodian temples, than filming Russian porn at the Giza Pyramid and Sphix and just barely worse than California women were caught scratching their initials into the Colosseum in Rome.
- Tradeoffs: Pentagon employees apparently used government credit cards for gambling and escorts. But as a result, they didn’t earn miles.
- Starwood’s summer promo is disappointing — but at least all hotels appear to participate. June through August stays of two or more nights that include a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night earn 1,000 bonus points. Registration will be required and available tomorrow.
- Emirates, which American, Delta, and United claim is unfairly subsidized, announced $1.5 billion in profits and declared a $700 million dividend to its sovereign wealth fund owners. Reverse-subsidized, maybe?
- Big bonuses for full fare and premium cabin travel between North America and Europe this summer from American — up to 115,000 bonus miles (on top of the big premium cabin bonus and bonus status points-earning. And if you really must credit your flights to British Airways (you really shouldn’t), they have a version of the offer too. (HT: One Mile at a Time)
You should be more upfront in your headline posts. 25000 point and ~ $400 for round trip to Europe from USA. You left out an important part in your headline grabber.. You lose credibility and people (like me) are less likely to click (give you revenue) in the future.
Looks like porn happened once more near the pyramids. Oops.

@fathiss not sure I’m following what you thought was misleading
@Gary, keep up the good work. Sorry you have to deal with all these complainers. I know I’m tired of reading their stupid complaints. Quit your whining.
This tourist-selfie thing is just out of control, and it’s not just us Americans. Watching 40-something year old men muscling past children to get a selfie in front of the Mona Lisa was just disturbing.
It is now tomorrow. Do you have a link to the SPG offer? I can’t find it on SPG’s website.
Thanks.
Indeed. No web page yet…
