This morning I wrote about Avianca LifeMiles’ bonus of up to 135% on purchased miles.
That offer runs through September 30 and lets you buy miles for as little as 1.4 cents apiece.
Commenter Ricardo Ferreira shares that it can get even better:

This does look like a legitimate promotion. You have to provide your account number but no additional information. So worst case scenario you don’t get extra miles, but it appears that you should.
So register and then wait a day before making your purchase. Then take advantage of the 135% bonus on purchased miles.
Buy 101,000 miles and you will receive:
- a 135% bonus of 136,350 miles
- a 10% bonus of 10,100 miles
- for a total of 247,600
- at a cost of $3333
- or a cost per mile of $0.01346 cents per mile.
You can of course buy 150,000 miles and receive a total of 367,500 miles.
As I wrote earlier,
There are no fuel surcharges and they offer one-way awards many of which are priced reasonably. They also offer ‘cash and points’ which means that as long as you have 40% of the miles needed for an award you can buy the rest at the time of redemption.
That said, their call centers are frustrating (if you can wait a day for a reply, they’re better over e-mail) and they don’t permit “mixed cabin” redemption — so if you are redeeming a transatlantic business class award, all segments need to be in business class (including domestic US flights, and intra-Europe flights).
…Miles are sold directly by LifeMiles, and count as an airfare purchase (for the Citi Prestige airline credit, and for bonus points-earning with cards that offer airlines as a category bonus).
Of course the extra 10% bonus on your base miles purchase is available only through September 15. Be sure you register today but do not buy today, wait a day to make the miles purchase. And as usual these bonuses are not available to people who weren’t already members of the LifeMiles program prior to launch of the offers.
Terms and Conditions

Do they allow mixed cabin awards if an aircraft only offers one class?
The terms above state:
“You must be previously enrolled to the LifeMiles Program. The last day to enroll is September 8th 2015.”
I read that to mean you can enroll today. No?
Acquired miles are only as good as the ease of using them. If the customer service of the airline is bad or there are too many restrictions on spending that currency, then only a few can take advantage of the “super deal”. But I see no caveats with the item?

From my experience with Avianca, you can only book the flights that you can see online on their website. Even if you call in, they seem to use the same system as online, so flights that you may see on ANA or United are not always available to book. This was my experience by YMMV
Are these points worth it? How difficult is it to book on other SA members using these miles?
The original offer at the LifeMiles website has the following:
“Conditions: Applies only to members enrolled in the program prior to September 7th, 2015.”
So, which is it??
AV doesn’t have access to Lufthansa F inventory, which is a big strike against them. LH is screening them out the same way they did US back when it was the premium class consolidator of *A…
That being said, for access to most of *A, it’s decent as long as you’re willing to be self-serve (book online, don’t want to change or cancel).
Interesting – but would be helpful if you followed up with a Post about the reliability of the Avianca program. Is this one we can trust, or do they devalue without notice? Do they respect *A bookings or engage in *A blocking like the old UA? What is the financial health of the airline? And finally – do miles have a hard expiration date? All this goes to the risk of whether you can use miles immediately (which few people can) vs. the risk of banking for future use – in 3 months or a year.
@Boraxo I mentioned in the earlier post today about their devaluations without notice in the past. No blocking per se as far as I know, but IT challenges which sometimes work in customer favor and sometimes against customers. Expiration policy is 24 months, extendable by any activity in an account. Make a shopping portal purchase (that posts) or donate 100 miles (https://www.lifemiles.com/eng/use/don/dondonmil.aspx) to generate activity.
I just used Lifemiles to book two United business seats EWR-GRU, and then a return from JNB to NYC on Egyptair in business. Using two airlines? see next sentence about calling.HUCB (repitan sign)
When you hit the “purchase ” button, hold on to your rosary beads and pray your credit card gets accepted because I have spent entire days on hold with Avianca…and I swear they have reps who just repeatedly hang up on you
