News and notes from around the interweb:
- More detail on the new Trump Hotels midscale hotel chain that doesn’t use the Trump name.
- Citi ThankYou Premier will earn triple points on gas station purchases — not gas purchased elsewhere — effective July 22. Funny thing is that’s how I thought it worked already. Anyone who made gas purchases at convenience stores back to November 15, 2015 though will be getting an extra 2 points per dollar credited.
- United Airlines supervisor attempts to ‘wrestle away’ instrument from violinist (HT: Ken A.)
- Expect Scott Kirby to Bring D0 to United. He opens a letter to employees saying that becoming a great airline begins “with taking off on time.”
At American, where Kirby was President before United, a laser-like focus on pushing back exactly on time has meant flustered gate agents who (1) begin boarding before scheduled time (frustrating crew, and passengers who turn up on time to find overhead bin space gone), (2) have an excuse not to process upgrade and standby lists correctly, and (3) do not come onboard to move passengers up from economy to first when a check-in passenger doesn’t show.
- The barber shop in the DFW Airport C terminal is closing. After 43 years it’s being pushed out (“he’s been told changes to the terminal are coming and plans do not include his DFW Barber Shop”).
When you remember that the airport is taking not just a flat lease rate but a percentage of retailer sales, things start to make more sense.
