IHG Rewards Club is launching a 50% off award night redemption sale for Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean on Monday.

It will be a great way to really stretch the signup bonus on the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card which lets you earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. (The card — which has a $0 annual fee the first year, then $49 — also gives you a complimentary night each year at any of their participating hotels, comes with automatic platinum elite status, and a 10% rebate on your redemptions.)

Intercontinental Cozumel

Half off points pricing will be available from Noon eastern on August 15 through Noon eastern on August 28 for stays between September 1 and October 30 at the following properties:

They offered a similar deal last year and buy IHG Rewards Club points from 7/10ths of a cent apiece (or less), that makes redemptions here cheap. Of course room rates at some of these properties will be low, so it’s worth comparing the points and cash prices of the hotel you’re interested in.

  1. What a deal! Wish I could take advantage of it. The Intercontinental in Cozumel is awesome!

    Thanks Gary!

  2. Actually, not mosquito season….HURRICANE season.

Cozumel is pretty nice – I’ve been going there occasionally since the 1980s (when it was really great!). I’ll be going back for a week in February (and, in fact, I’ll be staying in the hotel pictured above). Personally, I don’t roll the dice quite so much with my vacations – and I’d never head for someplace like Cozumel – on the coast of the Caribbean that gets creamed by hurricanes regularly – for a mere discount, during the height of hurricane season. True, Cozumel doesn’t get whacked every year – but often enough that I don’t like the odds. YMMV.

  3. I wonder if @van realizes that he has been helping make Cozumel not really great since the 1980’s
