IHG’s New Gamified Promotion is Out — What’s Your Offer?

The next IHG Rewards Club promotion is up and available for registration.

They’re coming out with ‘Accelerate’ again for stays between January 1 and April 30 you earn even more points. And in some ways it’s my favorite hotel promotion — not as much for its richness as much because it is sort of fun. It’s tough to get a thrill over double points for stays you’re going to make anyway.

IHG Rewards Club has moved to ‘gamified’ promotions with different pieces meant to incentivize behavior among members — with the specifics driven by data about your activity so far, like whether you’re a co-brand credit card holder or an elite or which of their brands you stay with.

I’m not a frequent guest at IHG hotels like Intercontinental (any longer) or Holiday Inn. I value IHG Rewards Club points at 6/10ths of a cent apiece.

On the other hand others are likely to get much more lucrative offers. And people can likely earn at least twice as many bonus points as I’m being offered.

  1. I don’t understand the “Earn 6,600 points after you book 6,600 Bonus Points Package stay(s)”. Do they have a “6,600 Bonus Point Package”? I don’t think they mean you have to stay 6,600 times.

  2. Nice offer @Gary … 43K points additional points for 4 nights, not bad at all especially if you have to stay in nearby hotels during the same period.

  4. We just got back from the IC Singapore. What a wonderful hotel. A nice location away from all the tumult of Orchard Road.

    FYI, no upgrades or benefits when using an award night, but readers here know this. 😉

  5. Couldn’t get it to work at all in Chrome but in IE it did. Yeah their promos are fun (to the extent that they work and that you can figure out what they mean) but between the fact that they keep selling points for less and less and the fact that it’s so difficult to get any meaningful benefits from their properties, I don’t bother worrying about IHG points any more. I just buy points when I need them and only stay at an IHG when there is no other choice with the chains that give much better mid-tier benefits.

  6. Weird that it doesn’t work in Chrome. Had to use IE. I assume that will fix itself soon.

  7. I think they have a bug. One of my wife’s goals is:

  8. Great, so now I have to buy a Windows machine to participate in IHG promos? I get redirects on both Chrome and Safari.

  9. Tried Chrome, Firefox and IE – nothing shows up except the old Accelerate for Q4 2017. Same for spouse.

  10. This “1,000 Purchase Points Now and Stay Later” is confusing, do I have to buy enough points and use points to stay before Apr 30th?
    Other 6 are easy if they don’t have to different nights from each other.

    So… here’s my math on this one. Book one bonus points package stay in January for roughly $130 at local market prices.

    + 6600 points for package stay (offer 3)
    + 1500 points for IHG spend (offer 4)
    + 19,900 for hitting 3 of the four offers.
    + 2000 for doing this all in January.

    32,000 bonus points for one night stay.

    I’ll buy at that price.

  13. I also posted this on Ric Garrido’s blog. Sorry if they’re one & the same so that this is a duplicate:
    My offer is simple & awesome: A. Stay 1 night & B. Pay for it with my IHG MasterCard to earn 3500 points. Then C. Stay a total of 5 nights to earn 10K, plus doing these 3 things earns me my Achievement Bonus of 26,500 = 40K bonus for 5 $–paid nights !
    I also have side bonuses of 2K for staying in January and 5K for referring a new member who stays before 4/30/18!
