When you log into your Marriott account you should see the new Bonvoy summer promotion that they call ‘Endless Earning’ which seems rather optimistic.
- Stays of two nights or longer earn a bonus of 1500 points
- Earn July 2 – September 16
- Register by September 2
Those points are worth just over $10, so $5 per night on stays exactly two nights long — but less on longer stays, and nothing on one night stays.
This is the kind of promotion you run when you don’t want to run one, but it lets them say they have one. The marketing budget must have been blown on TV ads and putting out IT fires. A promotion Yakov Smirnoff would love.
There is no world in which you should shift incremental business to Marriott as a result of this promotion, however you should definitely register for it because if you happen to have stays with them of two nights or longer during the promotion period it’s better to earn more points than fewer points — if your stay posts. Always get a paper folio from Marriott hotels before leaving the property. There’s a good chance you’ll need them.
I have not had a problem with the stays posting to my account. But there is a consistent problem posting Green Choice points. I almost always have to chase them down. Ok. I can do that i guess. But what really gets me is when I submit a request, clearly explaining what is missing, they reply with a copy/paste email stating the stay is not missing. So then it requires a follow up and another week to get it right.
Very weak promotion.
Dorkfest falls under that timeframe (as does the Maiden show in LA) so I will be travelling down there two weekends in a row…
HOWEVER…
…because Marriott devalued their status levels last year, I have no compelling reason to book the Marriott at LAX this time. I won’t have access to the lounge now that they made it a Platinum level perk. That lounge is the only reason an AVGeek would stay there because of the great views of the runways.
So this year I’ll stay at the H Hotel. Costs about the same but I can at least get on the roof and watch the planes land.
Yet another reminder that chasing $20,000 in spending — 100 nights isn’t a problem but $20k in spend before taxes outside of NY, DC and SF is a problem — for ambassador status isn’t worth it.
Gary let’s be honest, Marriott Bonvoys us in lots of ways. Just doing it on this promotion would be a blessing.
