Japan Airlines business class awards are wide open from a number of different cities, and you can book them using American Airlines or Alaska Airlines miles – as well as points from credit card transfer progams.

You’ll find availability out of Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and even San Francisco, New York JFK Dallas and San Diego. Broadly speaking this is available for winter months, with most available dates offering 2 business class award seats but some dates offering 4 seats.

Booking options:

• American AAdvantage: is the best deal at 60,000 miles each way (more for connections beyond Japan). No surcharges are added to these awards.

• Alaska Mileage Plan: is distance-based but assume 75,000 miles though connecting itineraries may cost more depending on the destination. Alaska is a Bilt transfer partner. No surcharges are added to these awards.

• Credit card transfer options: Most of you will use either British Airways Executive Club which starts at 92,750 Avios each way or Cathay Asia Miles at 89,000 points each way, since both partner with a wide variety of card programs. Flights incur surcharges ~ $225 each way.

It’s also possible to use Air France KLM Flying Blue and Emirates Skywards but both are stupid-expensive at 125,000 – 160,000 points each way.
