Airline Prints Wrong Boarding Pass, Passenger Misses Flight and Nearly Has Luggage Shipped Abroad [Roundup]

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • I hate it when that happens. This is a legitimately bad travel day that was already going to be bad once you start with (1) easyJet and (2) London Luton airport.

  • Charge it while you use it!

    I love this thing!

  • I didn’t have a chance to use my Amex Plat Resy credit expiring September 30th, so I bought a gift card for a restaurant I frequent. They process the gift cards online via Toast, so the reimbursement went through.

Apparently Snail Bar in Oakland has a wine club that worked. You never know when these things will change, since it’s not the way they’re supposed to work or how the terms are stated. So one day you may make a charge that doesn’t reimburse! But works well until it doesn’t!

  • 80% bonus on transfers from Chase to IHG One Rewards through October 22, 2025. This is not a good deal. It’s better than no bonus, but you shouldn’t use your Chase points this way. If you want to book an IHG property using those points consider booking through Chase’s travel portal for better value. IHG points just aren’t worth a lot, maybe half a cent apiece.

  • 30% bonus on transfers from Chase to British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus through October 31, 2025. I wouldn’t do it speculatively, but worth knowing this option is out there. You aren’t going to transfer to Aer Lingus. You might transfer to Iberia to fly Iberia business class to Madrid. Transfers to BA have broader uses, and of course it’s possibel to transfer from these Avios programs to Qatar or Finnair as well.

  • 20% bonus on transfers from Amex to Air France KLM Flying Blue through October 31, 2025. Again, not something to do speculatively, but there are a lot of uses for Flying Blue points – not least of which is that availability between the U.S. and Europe in business class is pretty decent (often not at the lowest price, but at a modest price premium e.g. 80,000 – made more palatable with a transfer bonus).

  • 30% bonus on transfers from Amex to Marriott through November 30, 2025. Yeah, don’t do this. A Marriott point is worth maybe 6/10ths of a cent. So you’re getting around 4/5ths of a cent value for your Amex points with this bonus. Better than no bonus, but just not an appealing way to use your points.

  1. Many years ago at ORD I was checking in for a UA flight (this was even before online and kiosk checkins) and the agent gave me a boarding pass from SJC instead of SJO. I happened to catch it when I walked up the gate and noticed that flight wasn’t going to SJO.
